I feel so stupid right now.  I just got done hooking up my new 22" Samsung 2253 (Thanks .Sup) and I was in tweaking my video options in BF2.  I set it all the way to 1680 x 1200 and now I can't see the entire screen.  How do I get it back so I can see the bottom of the screen & change my size down a notch?  I know this has to be easy, but I just got done working 12 hours and just wanted to relax with some beers and get some rounds in on my new monitor.  Thanks for any help.

You can't choose a lower resolution in BF2? or add

Code:

+szx [width] +szy [height]
to the BF2 shortcut target?

You sure it's not supposed to be 1680x1050?

I can't see the "apply" button, because the entire bottom of my screen doesn't show up, it is cut off.

Add +szx 1680 +szy 1050 to the shortcut, just like ebug said. Nothing from inside of BF2. Then download Widescreenfixer, and you're done.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Follow these steps if you're having trouble.

I tried this, it still isn't working.  Do i need to get the widescreen download before I try to reopen the game?

Edit:  Okay, I am a big moron.  That target fix works, I didn't put spaces before the numbers.  Thanks everyone.

Any particular widescreen fix that I should download?  Wasn't punkbuster saying this wasn't okay?  Did something change?

Its pretty easy to change manually in the config file... But I don't have a computer with BF2 in front of me so I cant get to specific...

Go to my documents, look for the BF2 folder, there should be a profile folder or something, and under that will be numbered folders and I think a default folder. They are numbered in the same order as the names appear on the main menu.

If you can see the log in screen open folder 1 (assuming your main account is the first one listed on the log in screen) open the video config file and look for the line with the "1680 x 1200" that you set it too, should be fairly obvious.... Put what you want in there.

Alternatively, just delete what ever folder corresponds the the account you set the res. too high.... that will just remove that character and all its settings. Make sure to back up the controller config if you have custom keys set.

I think I did a bad job explaining that?

I have never messed with that thing... but you can run it on a wide screen monitor with out anything special, it will just be stretched...

Do you have an ATI card? they have an option in the settings to use what ever resolution you set in game, rather then just stretching the display to fit the resolution set in windows... If you have that option set, and you set your game resolution higher then your desktop resolution you would probably only see part of the display.

Yes, I have a 4870 video card.  So no widescreen fixer needed?

Well, you can set the card up to play it with the black bars on the side so that its not stretched, but it won't be wide screen...

in the ATI settings look for "scaling options" and select "preserve aspect ratio"

If you want widescreen, you can do it with out any programs, but its only done by cutting some off the top and bottom of the screen... and at least when I did it it was a PITA and didn't really work well/look good.

Last I heard, which was way back when people were first talking about that widescreen fix program, it was PB approved.... but TBH I was always kinda skeptical about that.

BF2 still doesn't support widescreen even with the fix. The HUD is still stretched (noticeably) and the map is clearly an oval, but the gunsights, if you aren't shallow and pedantic about a couple pixels off, are perfectly fine. All the fixer changes is the FOV from same width/chopped height to same height/more width. Honestly I've never had WidescreenFixer work, or if it did, I didn't notice.

I have Widescreen fixer, latest version, and I notice a signifigant change in FOV. It's a certain advantage in seeing more on the sides over seeing less on the top/bottom.
