How would you move it? The aluminum fins on every side would bend like no other.

I'd love to see someone take him up on that.

EDIT: I'm pretty curious as to whether that would provide adequate cooling for those GPU's though. They get pretty damn hot.

was thinking the same thing.

Would be silly hot.

I think a a solution with direct watercooling would work best. Personally I'd try for a huge bong cooler. You'd have to top up the water once in a while, but you could make a huge reservoir to keep the cycles as long as possible
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

If they have enough money to do that, I am sure that guy ( whoever takes him up on it ) will have enough money to buy a mega freezer.

It seems strange that he would want to custom bend and solder hundreds of tubes, why not just use watercooling blocks on each gpu and cpu and chipset, it would be a lot of water cooling lines, but it would be better than hundreds of custom made heatpipes.

Also, what happens if one component fails? To replace it, you would have to tear the whole thing apart, this person has some cool ideas, but they are not very realistic, if you were going to build a cluster like that, you would need easy access to the parts, as we all know parts fail.

As for the Helmer 3? WTF? Who has the money to buy 2000+ GFX cards? What are the chances some will be DOA? That sounds like a pain in the ass to me.

No go on Helmer III. It would be unstable in a starship and too difficult to troubleshoot without a dedicated technician.

The total cost of the Helmer III was just shy of 1 million dollars. Some people will drop that on a car.. a boat.. a house.. some people will easily drop it on a hobby.

one of the most powerfull computers on the planet to this day is at CERN switzerland and is built mostly with the most powerfull 8800. the problem with the old generation super computers is that they use CPU's but the GPU's are much more efficent and powerfull when working together than the CPU's doing their work together.
