I'd like the chance to see if I could run my country better but I think I'd probably be unelectable. I would never pander to any religious voter bloc and I would like to think I'd refuse to sell out on issues that many would consider controversial. I also like to speak my mind and there isn't always room for that in politics... even though there should be.

Absolutely! I'd like to Govern California. But of course I'd never run in this day and age or in the political climate we have where commercials and ignorant voters combine for the perfect political storm every election cycle! If I were Governor of CA I'd probably be as non-partisan as possible and make every attempt to find the best solution (even best of the worst solutions when needed). But with the political climate, even the best politician can be turned into the worst villain alive.
So yeah, maybe in Tonga or some less politically challenged land.

I might try for something like city council, but not much beyond that. I like being active in politics, but I am realistic that I am much more likely to have a greater affect locally.

No, I hate American politics with a passion, were i to take office in this country, expect radical overhauls of most government positions and programs.
I would, if I had any chance of winning as anything but a Democrat or Republican. So I wouldn't expect it in my lifetime.
