Yarr, now i know the best form of protection against viruses, worms, spyware etc is down right common sense. Believe me, I've had way too many people come ask me at work which is the best to buy and like a good employee, and in the interest of the company, i direct them to the most expensive one.

Anyway back to the point, I'm just looking for some programs which will just give me the reassurance that if i do miss something it'll still have a chance to catch it

In the interest of your company, I think you should buy the most expensive anti virus software you stock.  Buy three copies, in case the first two explode.

I would listen to OH, he made the internet!!

I have used AVG and it got annoying every time I went on the internet I had to wait while it updated. I might try Avast on my sons computer instead of Symantec.

I used to use AVG but i found it got annoying or something (can't remember tbh) and i switched to avast, since then i installed avast on a pc i completely reformatted and it found 3 trojans that had been missed when we had AVG on the pc. my dad and i (both geeks, though me more so by far) both use avast.

I have Anti-vir for anti-virus. It is better than AVG as it has  a better detection rate.

for spyware i use windows defender as its pretty good

just to clear things up: i have used both AVG (for a long time, possibly 3 years) and just recently Avast! (for about 1 month) and I prefer Avast.

I've used a whole bunch of free anti-virus/spyware stuff. For anti-virus, I like Bit Defender and Avast! the best. AVG is good too, but mine always seemed to mess up after a while which needed a re-install to fix.

For anti-spyware, I like Spybot Search and Destroy the best. AVG Anti-spyware is decent as well.
