Are there free forum hosts?

I seem to remember seeing once upon a time something about free forums hosts (PHP-type).

The reason I am asking, is I have a group of friends and it can be kinda hard to keep in touch some times for us. I wanted to set up a forum where we could all talk together and share everything we wanted to say instead of always making new messages on Facebook or in emails or whatever. Just kind of centralize everything into one place.

Does anyone know where this would be possible? Or perhaps a host with a very small fee????

Created from scratch by the people at InvisionFree. The default skin sucks pretty badly but there's some great skins out there for it. One of the best for a free forum IMO.

My next question is: What would you recommend and why???

My requirements are pretty basic:
- Hotlinking
- Embedding images (with tags)
- Showing Youtube video like here on BF2S (I could do without, though I would rather not)
- And perhaps the ability to make the board invitation only (to keep out advertisers, bots, etc.)
- Ability to have admin power over the board after it's created

Soo ... ???

It is rare to have youtube video(bf2s is the only forum I have ever seen with this feature) like bf2s/trackr has on any forum, free or not, so good luck on that one.

Anyway one I would recommend is myfreeforum.org, you can register for support forum and ask for features like that. The admin will decide if he wants to have that feature or not.

actuallyhttp://punbb-hosting.com has it, it is run by one of the creators of punbb which is what bf2s has, and has lots of mods/themes. Plus the guy who runs it adds stuff if you ask in their forum, I highly recommend it.

Zetaboards has YouTube embedding also. I've worked with the largest InvisionFree board (now on ZetaBoards) for almost 5 years so I'd recommend it obviously. Very easy to use, great choice of skins and the support is right up there aswell.

Yeah, a group at school is using them now... They got some annoying ads, but that is why god made firefox + adblock...

Otherwise it has been working really well, We have a general forum and hidden forums for approved members only.

Yes.

You do also have the option of getting free web hosting from someone such as http://x10hosting.com, and installing your own forum software- which is 100000000x easier than you probably think.

Of course you can be an admin in any forum, wtf would be the point if there wasn't an admin? Unless you are referring to something else.
