Why not? Intel gets more money from the chipset + new cpu when the person buys the new Dell.

Why not? Intel gets more money from the chipset + new cpu when the person buys the new Dell.

Well, for instance, Intel would have to do the marking and research of how to do it.

Intel wouldn't do it because they would have to run special production lines just for Dell, and that is costly. If the board's chipset and power regulation are capable of supporting the chip, the BIOS is the only thing holding back the upgrade. I've upgraded/repaired the Optiplex systems in our office using retail parts from other computers, but they were the same part. This is a different core architecture.
