Well i find my canon iP4300 does the job nicely.
Cheaper the printer = More expensive the ink.
Try to stick to MSRP $100.
Also Epson CX5500.

I use a small portable and ultra-useful HP printer... it's inkjet, so sadly the ink cartridges are regular and hefty expense.
It has in-built scanner, photocopier and inkjet printer and it cost around $80-90 dollars. Super cheap and super portable so I can hook it up to a laptop in my accommodation and print off important notes/dissertations with ease. I know your asked for 'only' a printer but I'm just pointing out to you that affordable low-end printer/scanner/copier combos also exist.
