Using inflatable dummies to deceive aerial photography and such is quite different than using models in high-resolution, publicly-available photos.

They may have been attempting to do the same thing, but if so, they failed miserably.

Of course it is different when it's 60-odd years later and the two decoy techniques are completely different.

Not really and can you really blame them for trying ?

And it might not be directed at foreign sources but maybe as a mean to boost moral within Irans borders ...

Yes, really.

and can you really blame them for trying ?
No, but they certainly could have tried harder.

And it might not be directed at foreign sources but maybe as a mean to boost moral within Irans borders ...
Entirely possible.

Pompous perhaps; not so sure about the white supremacist bit. There are a lot of people on here that I'd think of being one before him, and even then I don't seriously think anyone on here is like that.

Agreed, it is very different.  In one case, it was an attempt to decieve the enemy to conceal real numbers and dispositions of real troops.  No attempt was made to try to pass these off as 'real' to the general public, nor were they publicized to increase the apparant size of the forces.  This tactic was dependant on the enemies recon capabilities. It is a case of  hiding your cavalry in the forest off the enemies' flank, but in modern terms.

Iran has published these photos in an attempt to deceive its own public, as well as the public and militaries around the world. It is not a tactic of misdirection used in time of war against one's enemies; it is a piece of propaganda, to brag and boast about the size fo their military penis.

Accept that worked because they were lifesized models that couldn't be inspected at close detail and were only needed to show a rough outline to fool the enemy.

Rather than some taking some images that are already on the internet in the day of computer technology where false images can easily be picked out.

Slightly different methinks.

they were used to convince the germans we were going to invade in a different location, not to convince them we had more then we did.  not even close to the same thing.

Technically it's the same concept but with an altogether different use.

Same things exercised for different results .

So was the whole some-country-dropping-tin-foil-to-confuse-the-Germans thing real or fake? I can't remember where i heard that...

Well, it's not like Dilbert's ever let facts get in the way of his hyperbolic allegations before...why should he start now?

I'll be sure to let all my black, hispanic, arab, jewish, and asian friends (and my Chinese daughter) know that I've been accused of being a white supremacist. They'll get a kick out of that.

Must've struck pretty close to home for Dilbert to twist off like that...
