Found it browsing Craigslist because my dad said that I should be looking for a bike to learn on

I just showed him the bike as in, "Hey isnt this bike sexy?" and he called the number and we ended up driving up to Suprise the next morning... after about 20 minutes of driving and riding he decided to buy it... apparently it was the bike that he was looking for (for himself)

Bike weighs about 490 lbs, rides low to the ground, and is EXTREMELY sexy, and very easy to handle

I've been getting used to it by riding it around town with my dad.
I have to say one of the coolest experiences in my entire life with my dad has been just cruising around town with him

And yes, before anyone talks shit about my dad getting me a bike like that that soon (got my permit days ago.) I am extremely fortunate to have someone who would put 3800$ down on me that quickly, and also to be fortunate enough to have a parent who can afford to do that.

Oh, and I filled it up yesterday, cost something like $6.20 for a full tank of gas. It. Was. Fucking. Amazing.

Love the Shadow dude, I took a riding course a few years ago and loved it. My first bike I bought was about three years ago, I only paid $600 for it. Also a Honda. A '76 CB550F to be exact, still ride it today. Much more of a sport bike compared to your Shadow though.

Did you take a riding course? NEVER ride on gravel unprepared...Also, really get a feel for how to take corners with it. Have fun, I love riding my bike

Havent taken a riding course yet, I plan to, I rode with my dad on a semi-busy road (3 lanes, traffic each way, stop lights, turn lanes everything) for 20 miles (10 each way) was great fun, I rode around the neighbor hood and my dad rode behind me telling me what I should be looking out for and misc stuff

I will be taking a riding course and getting my license in a few months though...

I'm surprised your dad got you such a large bike, though. By large, I mean engine. All riders I've talked to say to learn on something smaller and then step up after you've ridden for a while.

I was gonna say! Most riders start off on 125cc (Aprilia, Cagiva, Valadero etc) but not the OP heh ... well either way that looks like a great bike, and I hope you enjoy riding it

i'm more of a sport bike guy but thats pretty awesome man. congrats. don't do anything stupid.

most motorcycle injuries are caused by drivers who don't see you so always maintain a cushion space around you, IE never ride next to an automobile, and stay in the center lane when possible. also assume nobody knows you're there.

And screw you. I've got Vance & Hines short shots on my "hog". They have kept automobiles merging over on me. The pipes work great at letting people know that you are there (moving past). It's true. Loud pipes save lives.

A couple tips.
NEVER use your front brake during a turn. You WILL drop the bike.
Highway paint is very slick when wet.
Dirt, Sand and Gravel are NOT your friends.
Ride where the other drivers see you (and behave as though they don't see you)

PROFILE THE CARS
1. Who's driving it
- I pay extra attention to them if they are on a cell phone (can't check your blind spot holding a phone)
- I look for silver hair (indicates an elder driver)
- Seat reclined way back "thuggie style" (immature driver)

2. What does the car look like.
- If the car is beat the f' up (I assume they don't care about wrecking = possible careless driver)
- I look for beads and stickers (particular FSU/ FAMU/ TCC). Beads usually mean ditsy chick with big boobs driving & the stickers indicated the local universities. This indicates to me that they are a student. Students are usually young and therefore inexperienced at driving. They are most likely from out of town going to school and are unfamiliar with the roads.
- Taxi. Say no more.
- Is is a modded car (rice burner in particulars = retard aggressive driver)

Yeah, be careful with that thing. My grandpa and uncle both fucked themselves up on motorcycles. Both accident's were because the cars didn't see them.

My uncle's walked with a limp for the last 25 years and my grandpa broke his neck and never healed properly.

I got this really gay round helmet right now, the win cuts right along the bottom and I cant hear the engine going +55 mph (need to hear to shift, well not need but it would be good)

any ideas?

Go full face. My coworker just totaled his aprilla in the mountains. He got into some gravel on a turn and didn't remember a thing. His buddies said he kinda "superman" skidded face first across the ground. He had a full face on at the time. I saw it. It's fucked up way beyond fix. It could have been his face. I have a shoei x-eleven. Pricey and it is overkill. Basically, I never would want someone to have to tell my wife, if only he was wearing a helmet. There are two helmet safety standard ratings. The DOT/SNELL and the Euro one... If I remember correctly the euro standard and quality control tests are more stringent. They base rating on a test where the helmet is struck. The more stringent test has the same area struck again. What is the likelihood of that occurring though? The bottom line is that the helmets regardless of the rating aren't going to do much for an individual involved in an moderate to serious accident. There are usually several other injuries that alone would be fatal.

Make sure your helmet fits right. It should push your cheeks up a bit when you have it on. Get a tinted visor for day riding. Use the clear one at night. Always wear boots.

Leather is good. Also get raingear. I recommend Frog Toggs. Get the heat shield patch kit.

Oh, last tidbit. Never ride without eye protection. You might be able to take a gnat a 15mph, but a wasp or dragonfly at 60 in the eye will most likely blind you and knock you off your bike.

Well, here in AZ its sunny as fuck so I always wear sunglasses (polarized) under the mask and a visor on top of it, my eyes would dry out if I didnt wear goggles

The raingear... Again, its arizona But it is the monsoon season

Yeah im fucked if I get in a bad accident, but id still like a nice jacket and helmet, I mean it cant hurt putting a bit of cash down on it :p
