I use paper/plastic Twist ties for cables that I might need in the near future, and I use nylon cable ties for long term storage.

For really short term, I Wrap teh cable in a ZigZag till there's about 6" left, then I Wrap the whole thing tightly and run the cable through the loops, it tends to curl the ends, but it's free and keeps most cables together well.

Haven't tried these but they're cheap enough

And I can't find a picture of the hand tying methos, but they use is to keep climbing ropes clean

Since I'm a computer junky and have parts going all the way back to my first PC, I use these stackable, multi-drawer bins for storing my extra cards (sound, video, SCSI, etc.) and all my cables, adapters, and what have you.

I saved the box my motherboard came in and store any cables, screws, extra parts in there.

I just use boxes from my builds to somewhat organize all my extras.  I have a box for network cables, one for most of my other cables, one has extra fans and heatsinks, and so on.  I really want to do it like agent mentioned but i'm cheap lol.

I have a plastic toolbox thing that I keep all my junk in. It's not nearly big enough, so I have pieces of computer scattered on every shelf/drawer in my room.

TBH, these work pretty good.  You can buy a huge canister of them for pretty cheap, too.  To remove, simply cut.

If you have a side panel window (or whatever you call it) on your case because it will "blend" in more with the cables than white will.
