If you're in the UK and you're into tech, then the subject should say it all.

For those that aren't:

3 Mobile are offering three (au natural) mobile broadband packages:

Package 1:HP 550 Notebook£30 per month150 texts per month
Package 2:HP 2133 Mini-Notebook£35 per month200 texts per month
Package 3:HP dv6910 Pavilion£40 per month250 texts per month£49.99 initial payement

(all packages have 24month minimum contract and appear to be pretty much identical in all other regards (more details)).

Now, I just happen to be in the market for both a mobile broadband contract and laptop for work (as a freelance web developer)...

So, which package would you choose (if any) and why?

They are offering EEE or an HP lappy here, dunno which one but they are both like 30€ if you buy the lappy and mobile Internet together. For mobillity mini wins but since it has Vista.. I'd go with Pavilion.

I'd go for the mini, and either get more RAM for it, or simply put XP on it.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

But the sucky part is you pay for Vista.

When it's a bundled like this, it doesn't really matter.

I'm sure the XP bundle would be cheaper.

I doubt that'd make it £32.99 a month.

I doubt that too, more like 30.00 per month with XP.

Dude, the 2133 is 1/3 more expensive than the 550. 550 is 350€ here, 2133 is 650.

What kind on usb modem is it? i have a 3g pay as you go modem that i use in leeds. The connection is anything from dial up to just ok speeds for websites.

Not the best connection you would want tbh.If your not in a built area its ok,but if your out in the sticks then i doubt you will even get a signal or very little one.

5GB actually. And I doubt I'll get anywhere near that - I'm not gonna be torrenting over it.

Yeah, I know the speeds aren't great.

The thought is to use the lappy as my primary work PC.

But not my primary internet/gaming/everything-PC.

Just something I can write HTML, CSS and PHP code on when and where ever I want... maybe check a few emails, little bit of surfing and some uploading to websites... would be good if it could handle say Photoshop (not that I use that a great deal, would just be useful from time-to-time)...

Oh, and I live in Cambridge - network coverage shouldn't be a problem. Hell, even out in the fens (flat land) it'd probably work OK.
