WENDOVER, Utah  —  A 47-year-old record-setting motorcycle racer has died after losing control and crashing while traveling at 239 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Really .................. I wonder if they had to have a coroner come out to confirm it or did they just take a guess after finding a arm here and leg over there and oh wait theres a foot waaaaayyyy over there

Holy shit have you seen the links to stories there, not one bit of good news.

Also 400MPH on a motorbike? Wouldn't you need a very large runway?

Never been on one, I assume there's not as much grip though.

During an all-out high speed run, you dont want grip.  Grip begets friction, friction eats speed.  The salt binds up on the tire anyway, it creats a kind of layer between the surface and the tire...grip is damned near impossible a bit into a run.

I caught a little peice on the Noth American Eagle.  A record chasing jet car out at Bonnie.  They needed to have custom made (spun) a set of very specially designed aluminum rear wheels.  Even on the flats, with the wheels of aluminum, and no rubber involved, they were melting rear wheels.  And that was only at 730mph +/- a few mph.

Bonnie does strange things to the machines that run on it.  Not to mention the wierdness it creats in people hehe.
