It happened on the "BLISS CLAN SERVER"(81.7.177.56:16567) an hour ago. My cousin likes it, because it is one of the few populated, vehicle servers, rotating mostly "Road To Jalalabad". For every four Jalalabad rounds a random map is played, and this time the map was Mashtuur. We joined in acompanied by a friend of ours. The server was almost empty with 9 players in it.  We have been fighting for about 10 minutes, when my cousin said: "A hacker is playing" I turned around and a bunch of cars were falling from the sky. It is common these days, and being not as surprised I took one of the tanks - endangered by a possible aimbotter I feel safer in a Tank!
But what follows makes me very, very nervous. One of the players I am not sure what was his name as it happened fast, wrote down: "GAME OVER" - with big red letters!!! And the next thing I saw was my desktop, the worst part was that  my cousin and our friend were both dropped to desktop as well. I checked the server immidiately and it was empty!

I am in a desperate need of explanation and I could only think of  one answer - an admin did this...but what if I am wrong?

He crashed the server, no big deal.

Yep, it's a server crash hack, that overloads the game in one way and the server can't handle it anymore. Can be done with vehicle drops, supply crates or simple text spam.

Like everyone else, you and your cousin were taken to the desktop. It's called a CTD (crash to desktop). Don't sweat it.

I just started playing BF2 again after about a year or so. I have had my game crash to desktop about 3 or 4 times in the past two weeks but I don't ever remember seeing anything funny like hundreds of vehicle drops or "game over" messages, do you guys think this could still be from a hack player? or is there always something odd that happens just before crashing? not that it's a big deal, it just never happend before.

No, those crashes are just cause the game's buggy.

If they damage the server by overload, couldn't the hacker be subject to legal action?

physical damage?

that would be a result of poor server construction/maintenance, not any program issues (and considering the massive amount of RAM in most servers, your computer would lag to death long before any of theirs)
