So basically, when i got this PC, it came with a free Norton 12 month coverage pack, its been 12 months, and im not paying for piece of shit.

Ive heard of AVG, but what others are there, which is best and why?

Spybot Search and Destroy is good.

As in CCleaner.

Avast! is a great anti-spyware program.

I also use PeerGuardian because I use a bittorrent.

Does the XP 64bit also function with vista 64bit?

I second AVG, as well as SSaD and Spyware Blaster.

With those three I've only ever had one minor bug.

Your head.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Avast!

I used to use AVG too, it's not bad, but I think Avast! is better.

My head and AVG. I have AVG completely disabled and only update it once a week via a windows task. That way it doesn't hurt performance, but if the shit ever hits the fan, I have a fully working and updated AV to run
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

These three here have proved very well in the last month.

Remember, once a program becomes popular, it also becomes useless.

Case in point: Ad-Aware, CWShredder, Spybot.

I did the same thing- had bought Norton licensed for 12 months- realised what a piece of shit it was and uninstalled within 6. Then ran avast! and it found 3 trojans...

Nothing I tried would get rid of them so ended up having to remove manually from windows settings files etc. etc.

Moral of story: Don't buy Norton. Ever.

Trying to fix a computers network problem (couldn't send files, only if initiated by othe computer) me and my brother tried all sorts of things.

Guess what? After removing Norton it worked like a charm. Installed NOD32 (the guy that owns the laptop DOES need one)
