Is paypal a really safe site to use for online shopping?
And does everyone who does use it connect to there bank account?

You really have no reason to be weary or cautious of PayPal, they're straight-up one of the most reliable and secure payment sites on the Internet.
Just have some common sense when you decide who to engage in transactions with, that's what you need to be worried about more so than the actual payment service.
paypal has fees 2kylef wrote:
I'd go as far as saying Paypal are the safest means to do transactions with. (mainly because of their policies, also. Not their fees!)

Look at it this way, PayPal is used by Ebay. Ebay knows their shit. They wouldnt use something thats insecure.
Paypal does the exchange rate for you and charges a few cents fee (I think) for converting it.Backupwayback wrote:
so if iw ere to connect my debit card to paypal i should be alright?
And how do i switch canadian to american?
When you buy something, it'll automatically do currency conversion for you, only problem I've had so is that it doesn't tell you the exact amount it's gonna take from your Bank until after you confirm, so it'll tell you the value in American that you send, but not the Canadian balance,Backupwayback wrote:

I wasn't aware there was a 'waiting' period. Set-up a free PayPal account, fill in your credit/debit card details and then it's ready to use as soon as you want. At least that's how the system works over here in the UK/Europe- don't know about banking security or systems elsewhere.Backupwayback wrote:

If iw ere to start it today how long do you think till id be able to purchase stuff?
There isn't a "waiting period" per-se.Uzique wrote:

However, if you sign up with a credit card then it is instant.TheDonkey wrote:

This doesn't apply to Credit Cards, but for Debit, here's the process:
Fill in your Debit information
To verify that you own that account, Paypal will deposit 2 sums of pennies to your account($0.37 and 0.18 for example) and it'll ask you to verify the sums. It takes about 4 days for this to work(for a Canadian account, Americans are faster)
Your account will now be verified
Go shop, now there are 2 paths to take here,
1. The store is nice, fill in your cart, check out, sign into paypal, it'll tell you that you;re deducting from a debit account, hit submit, wait a week for it to go through. Then the store ships
OR
2. The store is stupid and doesn't let you echeck directly, then you go to Paypal.com, sign in hit the "Add Funds" button, add some nice even amount that's more than you expect to buy($50) confirm, wait a week.
at this point, the $50 is in your Paypal Balance, NOW you can go directly to the store and checkout, then it'll deduct the money from your paypal balance and the store'll ship right away.
I tried to make this easy to read, but it's late and that's as easy as I'm willing to make it.
So basically, 2 weeks is your best bet for getting something to your door, but that's very unlikely, assuming you pick the best day and time to sign up(with how weekends work out, if you sign up on a bad day, you'll have to sit throguh 2 weekends) and also assuming that you pay for teh overnight or 2 day shipping.
