My specs:

Intel E6850
EVGA 680i motherboard
Crucial 6400 ram.
ATI 4870
Windows XP.

For the first time today I tried overclocking, I was at 3.0 on my CPU as stock. I put up to 3.1 and tried Orthos for 10 minutes, then 3.2 etc. I got to 3.5 and idle temps are 30 ish degrees. With 60 degrees in Orthos.

After 9 minutes of stress testing my PC froze up, and a continuous high pitched beep came from the speakers. This happened last time someone overclocked my computer.

The person helping me suggested to put the nForce SPP from 1.40 to 1.45. After 10 minutes of Orthos it went red and said there was an error. (So unstable i believe)

I haven't changed any other settings and I have some good quality pictures of the BIOS for you here:

So basically, I was wondering what to do next?

I would be happy with 3.4 - 3.5 stable.

Up the voltage to the next option. Then check again.

CPU voltage yeah?

Yeah. Then check the temps.

A higher voltage will let you reach higher clocks yet still stable.

Maybe you got a poor chip.
I actually overclocked my friends 6850 on the same board about a week ago.
It was stable at 3.6, but when I stress tested it it shut down due to heat (because he has a shitty CPU fan)
I got it running 3.4 stable however.
I think the voltage was near stock too. (Maybe 0.05v above stock.)

I have a Zalman (Don't know exact model but it's the round orange one)

I put the CPU to the next setting up which is 1.35625

Is this right?

Did you read my guide?

More voltage to the north bridge is my bet.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I did yeah and it was helpful. Where is the northbridge voltage?

Wait I already did, from 1.40 to 1.45.
