Why would God have a will? It's not like He's kicking the bucket anytime soon. Either way, I hope I get a piece.

New vids in OP.
Good stuff.
Good stuff.
As much as the idea of religion mixing with government disturbs me, especially being an atheist, I think this is true.Stingray24 wrote:
Just because a person of faith prays about a decision doesn't mean it won't be sound and well researched.
A person in a leadership position, who happens to speak in the vernacular of "faith" and looks to god and prayer as 'backup' so to speak, is ok with me. A person who claims they "had a talk with god last night, and he said "do this" -- is somewhat worrying, and imho, slightly deranged.
In other words, looking to your faith on a personal level to shore up your confidence, or even using it as affirmations, as figures of speech, fine, but if they are making important decisions based only on some imagined communications from on high, that is a problem for me.
Do we want our leaders doing this sort of thing in public, saying it's Gods will?Vax wrote:

She was speaking in an official capacity as governor of Alaska.
I think the Constitution makes the answer pretty clear.
In my perfect world ? No.ATG wrote:

Thing is there are a lot of religious people, and I was raised, I guess, to afford them some respect (overtly) as it's a personal thing.
Official capacity, public service, etc, does not fit into that; so I would prefer they leave it at the (church) door...or save it for their memoirs.
Cool, god want us to kill muslim or iraqis though? Damn she needs to be more specific before I will go on a mission from god.

Guess you've got your answer now FEOSFEOS wrote:
This is a serious question. When I was running this morning, I was thinking about how so many here say Christianity is just as brutal as Islam. Now, of course, we all realize that both of those religions (and Judaism) have holy books that, if taken literally, advocate violence to varying degrees. That's not what I'm wondering about.
What I'm wondering about are sects of those religions that not only preach violence, but endorse it, demand it, inculcate it in their followers. I'm sure it's due to news coverage over the past ten years or so, but I can easily think of Muslim sects that do this...Wahhabism comes immediately to mind.
But--despite honest effort--I couldn't think of a Christian sect that does the same. Or a Jewish sect that does the same.
So that's the question:
What are the sects of the three major religions that preach violence against non-believers and encourage acting on that teaching?
Fuck Israel

I agree with you. Praying does good to many people. It will increase their morale and confidence etc, and its perfectly OK for religious people to pray for guidance or whatever. But claiming that their decision is exactly what God wants is totally deranged and extremely arrogant . No one should claim that and especially people who are (in this case) running for president or any position within the government.Vax wrote:

Fuck your God if you guys think that a war is a task from God. Go tell that to the families of the thousands of people who have diedStingray24 wrote:
McCain states there will be other wars and when presented with a hypothetical states that he would consult the leaders of Congress. Am I missing something? I don't see the big deal here. Palin believes the Iraq war is a task from God and asked prayer for God's will regarding the pipeline. What else do you expect a person of faith to do? We pray about our decisions. Shocking information, I know.
"Oh don't worry, it was a task from God"#
Infact you can tell gs and some other guys right here, right now, that what they did was a task from God
Shit. That's what the fuckin terrorists say. "My suicide bomb is a task from Allah"
What's the difference? Nothing. It's funny how you can criticise these Islamic nutjobs for doing the exact same thing that the people you praise are doing.

Fuck Israel
How do you plan on fighting another war anyway? The US military was never built to fight three wars at once from what I've heard.

so is america waging a Jihad on iraq? "religious war" bc Bush and others believe god told em to?
Israel will attack Iran and the USA will fully support him in it. Not only with money (what its already doing) also you will have to send troops as Israel will cry for it. In other words you will fight for him! Not a good thing thought.

At least a couple of us are not praising this kind of rhetoric. Believe me it does cross my mind that those jihadist-types yell "allahu akbar" when doing some heinous things, and I don't want religious fervor driving our decisions.Mek-Stizzle wrote:

I think there is a difference, if you look at the context -- in the vid she is talking about sending her son off to Iraq, and her whole point is 'pray for our military PRAY..that our leaders are sending them on a task from god' -- it's asking for or hoping for affirmation, not a statement of fact. It's more like she is hoping they are doing the right thing by god.
Again, many people find it inappropriate for gov't officials to use this type of rhetoric, but we 'yanks' have a pretty well defined tradition of separation between church and state, so we are fairly confident that while a person of strong faith might enter office, that he/she will carry out that office without using religion to drive their decision making.
Yes, I'm leaving bush out of this for the moment -- I don't know for sure how much his decision to invade Iraq was derived from conversing with god or if he was just praying for guidance...I have heard things..the idea does not sit well.
Just wanted to put this up again to make sure i'm quoting correctly, I didn't get the wording exactly right, but paraphrased, that is the gist of itATG wrote:
