I'll probably end up going ATi when I upgrade next year.

Good man. I always liked nVidia, had good experiences at least, but I heard so much good about the 4850 (for my budget) it would be stupid to ignore it out of fanboyism. Only disappointment is the cooler, getting a S1r2 eventually.Poseidon wrote:

I simply go for what's better.Defiance wrote:

It's why fanboyism (especially in tech) always makes me laugh. I'm a gamer and a tech enthusiast. I don't buy things by brand name (well, in terms of EVGA/BFG/etc I do since I prefer EVGA, but there's no difference...I'm talking in terms of ATi and nVidia), I buy them by which is BETTER. Just like I do for games. If there's a game on PC/PS3/360, I'll get it on whichever platform I think I'll enjoy it most on.
So yeah. I just get whichever is the best at the time, no matter who the brand is.
He never said it was better then anything, He said he has always had Nvidia, and now bought ATI... and that he like his ATI.Uzique wrote:

I really like ATI's "use native aspect ratio" on my laptop, wish my 8800GTS could do that....

That card should score over 13k
/agrees. I got 14250 out of that thing with an E8400.
Btw, how on earth did you manage to set the fan speed higher? Because I couldn't find such an option in the ATI Overdrive menu
btw..yes it probably would beat the HD4870 but not by muchWhite-Fusion wrote:

To make the fan speed higher, you have to make a new profile in CCC. Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\AppData\local\ATI\ACE\Profiles, then open the file called <whateveryounamedtheprofile>.xml in notepad or whatever. Go to the bottom, and find:RDMC wrote:

Code:
<Feature name="FanSpeedAlgorithm_0"> <Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Automatic" /> </Feature> <Feature name="FanSpeedRPMTarget_0"> <Property name="Want" value="0" /> </Feature> <Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0"> <Property name="Want" value="27" />

Is the fan speed %.
Then just save this and reload it in CCC.
OR:
The much better alternative is to uninstall CCC, because it is pathetically shitty, and download Rivatuner.
EDIT: By the way, the above path to the profiles may not be correct, I can't remember. It's close though.

Yeah CrazeD is right, do that to change it. I find out of game, a profile with speed of 35 works best. In game 38 to 42 depending on if the sound annoys you. And 50 for benchmarks etc (I like to have this)
I get 12600 or 12800 now cant remember. After overclocking to 3.45.

I keep mine on 100%. You'd think 9000RPM would be ridiculously loud, but my old x1950xt was way louder...so this doesn't bother me.
Though if you want good fan control, like temperature-based control, get Rivatuner. I used CCC until Rivatuner supported the 4000 series, then I uninstalled it...I fucking hate CCC.

CPU OC means A LOT in 3Dmark. I went from 13K to 20K by overclocking my Q6600. 11600 is right score for STOCK E6850. Although the 3dmark score isn't much better than with the old GTS, gaming performance gets much bigger boost.
The fact is that ATi does have the fastest gfx card atm (HD 4870 X2). That doesn't make a GTX 280 bad card if you get it at low price. if you want really fast card but can't afford the X2, 280 is your choise. But if you can afford the X2, you kick the GTX's butt...

quite frankly I don't find that score odd at all. 3dmark loves quad core CPUs. AMD HD 2000, 3000 and 4000 seem to score very close in 3dmark with dual core CPU.White-Fusion wrote:

Q6600 @ 4GHz and 2900XT CF and boom, the cheapest possible 3d06 killer. Seriously, that would do over 25k.
And would be shit in games compared to a single 4870 for example.
Edit: meant 2900XT Crossfire

Just btw, I read somewhere that someone had that fun running at 100% and he wasnt bothered by it that much? Like WTF it sounds as if Hurricane Ike/Hannah/<Insert hurricane name here> is raging through my PC when I turn that fan up to 100%

Maybe the HD4850 is a little different then.
My old x1950xt literally sounded like a leaf blower when I turned it to 100%, so this is nothing comparable. It's a whoosh of air but it's not really that annoying. I have a lot of fans and I wear noise canceling surround sound headphones, so I can't even hear it.
