Ok, so as some of you may know, I am a web developer and as a developer I probably have some computer habits.

One of my 'habits' is that I always maximise windows on my desktop. I do this just so that I have view everything that I need to view and not have to constantly scroll. OR if I am using something which has multiple scroll panels inside (i.e. an FTP program) I will make sure that the panels which are the most important are expanded to show more content than less important ones.

I have noticed a lot of others in the office will not maximise windows, and are always scrolling in programs, so when I am looking at their screen it bugs me.

Do you maximise your windows? or do you like to have loads of windows 'not maximised' on your screen at once?

I only have my browser maximized the rest no. On 24" so even the non maximized windows are big enough to not have to scroll much.

Pretty much everything. Exceptions:

Windows Explorer - Back button be damned. I'll just drag shit or switch and paste tyvm.

Media players - Winamp stays in Windowshade, but if I use the library it takes the whole screen, <3 Big Bento. WiMP's visualisation doesn't warrant to take up my entire screen with fugly.

Messengers - I hate little shits that Maximise the Contact List. Especially since the goddamn thing loads at startup.

Depends a little. I tend to have my browser in a window, as large as it needs to be to display my pages correctly, and chat clients and such on the side. When I write, like in school, I have one document maximized, and one un-maximized on top of the maximized one. Explorer windows are rarely maximized, as well as chat windows.

This is just for the laptop, though, on the stationary, I can have FF maxed on the 24", and everything else on the 17".
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Depends. I don't with iTunes/Messenger etc, but Firefox I do. Although I've gotten into the habit of watching movies whilst I browse the web, so then I just run both next to each other.

Yeah things like Messenger, and media players I don't have maximised. But if I had say, Winamp opened, it sits at the top of my screen out of the way so that it just has the buttons and the status bar.

Browsers, yes.

Explorer, no. I like being able to drag files around to different places easily.

Music, no. No reason, just gets in the way.

Messengers, no.

Text editors, most definitely

FTP, most definitely.

Then for every random program I have, pretty much if I have to scroll side to side, it gets maximised. I hate scrolling side to side.

I feel the same way as you, but I usually keep my browser windowed. at 1024 or 1280. on my 24" monitor, a maximized browser is way overkill, plus I like to see other apps opened in the background.  I use FF window resizer plugin.

I maximize my browser, and office programs, as well as Photoshop and Dreamweaver. I maximize WMP only if I'm scrolling through the library. If I'm watching videos it's either full-screen or windowed.
Messenger windows are windowed. Unless I missed a big chunk of the convo, and want to read up - I hate it when they're maximized - takes away the mobility

Oh yeah, and my contact list is docked.

I don't maximize anything. I find it so much easier to find other windows, especially ones that I have so they don't show up on the taskbar. Everything looks nicer not maximized anyway

I always maximize, I have an OCD-like feeling that pops up if I don't have a window maximized.

On a 24" monitor I don't maximize anything. If working with 2 monitors I'll keep my IDE maximized on one screen and all the ancillary stuff like rdp sessions, monitoring programs, mail, etc in another.
