I got pretty nervous over the weekend when Fanny and Freddie got seized.

things like the entire mortgage industry in danger of collapse? How could this be?

Then I heard that Ford and GM were requesting some tax payer assistance.

And I started to look.

These auto makers are like sharks smelling blood in the water. They see a industry famous for cooking their books, stated income and adjustable interest rates getting a potential 300 billion dollar infusion of tax payer cosigned loans from the Federal Reserve. They want their share.

So, here is the meat.

Ford says there is no demand for its 65 mpg car. They say there is no infrastructure or demand. Yet, just a quick look around my house says at least it wouldn't be a problem for me.

Meanwhile, India prepares a low cost option.

Ford, the U.S. version anyway, will cry death unless it gets a tax payer funded cash infusion. Our politicians will open my grand children's wallets to pay for this...crime. This is a scam.

Fannie and Freddie are government run institutions, how can they be seized by the government?

Just what the hell is going on here?

Not out of their pockets...just yours. They can just switch their corporate HQ and activities to some podunk tax haven, like Haliburton did a few years back to avoid both major federal oversight and taxes. If malfeascence by military contractors is ever investigated, they can skate away. Also goes to what Kmarion said - its easy to dodge taxes by building a little kingdom outside of US borders if you got the funds.
