My XPS is 1.25 years old. It's based on the P4 3.4 gHz CPU.
I configured it with GeForce 6800 GTO and Creative Audigy ZS Platinum but only 512 MB Ram. It still played BF2 very well, but loaded slowly. Yesterday, I tossed in another Gigabyte of Corsair Ram and it plays very smoothly in all facets. I admit to having BF2 at Medium settings, but Dell has not let me down.

I've gopt the lowly dimension 4700, with an X850XT. Running 2 1/5 gigs of ram, and have no complaints. Once you disable all the "great" dell support crap and other uneeded junk, it rocks. I am usually one of the first ingame.
hmm u sure its not overheating? i had a xps 4 and i had that. Dell told me it was the CDrom . : \

Update..My Dell XPS3 still works great. I am also still in the top 2 or 3 on 95% of the time. Found that dumbass program and killed it too..CC-Marley wrote:

almost being the key word...
every now and then I'll have a crash...normally it's right after I just got finished loading and joining a server and it's "loading" after it's done "loaded" and I go faster than apparently my comp can think, then I'll say WTF and try again....
but the one that I get rarely (used to happen about once a week but hasn't happened in a while "knock on wood") was that when I was in a vehicle or was in between switching weapons, my whole comp would lock and I would have to manually restart the whole PC

I have an XPS Gen 5 with an Nvidia card and have no performance issues with it. I do crash once in a while to desktop but since I'm on Teamspeak with many others, I know that about half the players on the BF2 server crash at the same time as I do and this included AMD users as well as intel users, ATI as well as Nvidia so it's not a hardware issue. It's an issue with EA and their latest patch. I've been on a server where half the players crash and I didn't, so it seems totally random.
I have a Dell XPS but haven't experienced any similar problems. Wish I could help!
I'd blame it on shitty coding by DICE . As an example I can load COD , find a server , join it and get 10 kills in the amount of time it takes me to simply get past Client Verification on BF2 .

I have a Dell XPS (make that 2)... but sorry can't help I have Dell XPS M170 and a Dell Inspiron XPS gen 1 (2 laptops) and BF2 is running great on both...
This topic is so old lol! After like a week of posting this post I went to dell and updated my drivers, ever since I did that Ive had no crashes!

Have you guys heard of the XPS Renegade, dammn it can run dual core 4.26 processors!! look it up, it will be out on may.
it will be able to run quad 7800 gtx sli cards, although that alone cost somewhere around gs

still i think dell shouldve went with AMD for dual core, theres no way the intel chips can get full pot. of the 4 GTX
The majority of the people on this topic claiming to have issues with BF2 crashing to a blanl blue screen are all running ATI video cards? Hmmmm. Gents, get rid of them and go with a high quality Nvidia card! I have the 7800 GTX and it absolutely screems through BF2 on all high settings and AA at X4. Give them a shot and your crashes will cease.

I'm not sure what Chipset the Dell XPS systems use...But I had the same problem with my custom built system. At first I thought it was OS / RAM / Graphic Card Related. Reloaded / Replaced and no change. Tweaked with BIOS settings, no change. Tweaked Vid Card / OS / BF2 settings...No change.revolution.inc wrote:

Bought a new Motherboard...Problem resolved. BF2 just didn't like the SIS chipset my old board was using.

Sounds an aweful lot like a conflict with the sound cards. Try lowering your sound to a lower level.
If thats not the problem, Make sure you use a good driver for your vidio card. Its recomended to NOT USE any ATI driver above the 5.12 for Any card Under an X1800. If you can, you should Goto ATI and under previouse driver versions you should get the regular control panel and then get the seprate 5.12 Driver only. That CCC Control panel Running on That .net Crap causes more problems than it solves.
I would also check that your mamory isnt overheating. A typical X800 or X850 Puts out an Insane amount of heat. Normal range of 57c and above. Couple that with the Heat of a prescott core Intel processor, your going to have problems. Take the side cover off your computer and run it that way. It Just might help.
Other than those fixes, I dont know what to tell you. I have to run my Home built (very well ventilated) computer with the side cover off to keep the System ram cool enough to avoid this problem.
Hope you get it sorted.
