I posted this over at trackr but its not as active as bf2s right now so I thought I would post here to get more responses. Anyway I have been thinking of joining the Canadian Armed Forces ever since I was 14, now that I am 20 and bored as shit with everyday life (going to college/work) I have been thinking about it even more than normal. Just looking for feedback from people who have served in the Military (preferably Canadian Military as I am Canadian), I want to know the good and the bad, what the strain is like for the family and friends and if it is worth it. Also another thing is that I do not have my grade 12 (yes I was a dumb shit asshole and got expelled in grade freaking 12 and said screw it to school which was the worst decision of my life so far) that is why I am in community college to get grade 12. This brings up another question, is grade 12 mandatory for infantry or do you need it? Would the GED (grad equivalency diploma) be fine?

Please I would like serious answers because this is a serious topic thanks.

I'd say no. Go back to school, study, and get a good job.

Have you seen the news? If you get expelled in the Middle East you most probably ain't coming back.

I'm sure there is a dream job you would like to do mate, right?

I would say stick with College

you got the opportunity to go to College, finish it and then get a job that you like.

What Alpha said. You can always go Army later.

If you do enlist now, keep these things in mind (assuming you'll actually get deployed to Afghanistan):

-You will see things that you don't want to see.

-There is a substantial chance that you will see one of your friends die. (Your squadmates will become your friends.)

-You will put friends and family through a hard time. It's not all about you - things can be just as hard for the people you leave behind.

-Depending on what you go through, it will be even harder to find a place in the civilian life if you return. If you think you're bored and frustrated now, just wait until you get back from deployment. Even if you stay with the military after that (which you probably won't), life on the base will start to frustrate you after deployment to a hotzone like Afghanistan.

My advice: finish your education first. Then, later, you can always go military. Maybe things will even have calmed down in Afghanistan a bit.

EDIT: For the record, I am military myself and my best friend recently got back from his deployment in Afghanistan.

He's only finishing of his high school at a college, I don't think he's actually going to college college, if you get me.

If Grade 12 counts as standard compulsory education over there, then it's best to finish it before signing up. You might aswell finish it off seeing as you started it, no point dropping out of Grade 12 for the second time!

If you can't join the Canadian military with your grades you can join ours with shite all qualifications.

I'm pretty sure with the Canadian Army you don't get sent to the Middle East unless you request it and there's still a large waiting list, so most likely you'd just be at base, training most of the time.  I have a few friends that are in the military and/or in training and they're all frustrated on how difficult it is to get into actual combat.

IIRC, you need at least a grade 10 education or 33 High school credits to join the infantry. Of course if you want to be an officer, you're gonna need to have your high school diploma.

It maybe small, but at least it can fight (Its unlikely I'll see combat as I'm just a reservist and a university student ) At least they'll pay for my education

I servered in The British Army and have had the pleasure of going over to Canada to do exercise on 4 occasions. 1 in Toronto with the Canadian TA and 3 at Wainwright (Spelling) doing 2 artic warfare exercises and 1 summer jolly.

I found from my time that the accommodation and scoff was good. In fact the scoff was gleaming! Most of the blokes teaching us were good and approachable. There was only one knobber who would shout at us when we fell over in our skis! I would'nt mind but l've never skied before and the British Army planks are crap!!

Your rations leave alot to be desired. 1 fucking sweet and fruit flavoured teabags! What the shagging hell is that all about and it takes up far to much space what with 1 bag per meal. I did like the seperate bag with all the Beef Jerky and sweets in.

I did enjoy my time working with you lot. You had some strange ways of dealing with things and l still can't get my head around you lot going into the field with a grip bag.

My advice to you is if you do join. Attempt to get a trade and enjoy your time. I did and its made me the man l am today!

Depends who you are. If your physically fit and not that smart academically, it would appeal more to you. Otherwise stay in college. We need smart people to get a cure for cancer, not die in some meaningless war.
