Just like we don't think Obama can spend years with Mr Wright and not adopt some radical views Sarah Palin must also hold secessionist views as she is married to a seven year member of the Alaskan Independence Party. The founder is famous for saying  "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," the party's late founder, gold miner Joe Vogler, once said. "And I won't be buried under their damn flag."

The thing is, it's not just residents of Alaska who favor breaking away from the Union. According to a Zogby poll conducted in July, more than 20% of U.S. adults -- one in five, about the same number of American Colonists who supported revolt against England in 1775 -- agreed that "any state or region has the right to peaceably secede from the United States and become an independent republic." Some 18% "would support a secessionist effort in my state."

This is not a hiccup of opinion. In an October 2006 poll conducted by the Opinion Research Corp. and broadcast on CNN, 71% of Americans agreed that "our system of government is broken and cannot be fixed."

"Whenever any form of government becomes destructive ... " wrote Thomas Jefferson, "it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government.... "

That time is now.

It is not a time for civil war or protest, it is time to take away the power of the Senators and Congressmen who scurry about Capitol Hill like little roaches on roach errands doing parrasites work.

It is a time to agree on a alternate form of trade and end the enslavement of taxation without representation.

Then revolt.  There is no way you're gonna get rid of the Congress without killing each and every one of its members.

If you want to make a radical change, adopt radical ways.

They were from a foreign land though... cant expect a bunch of imperialists to defeat a bunch of natives who dont want them there (Vietnam and countless other wars). Wouldnt what your saying be kind of like the civil war all over again?

I'd like to believe radical change can come without violence.

Who says we need to revolt violently?  Why not use 'the system' as a tool against corruption and cronyism?  The first step is understanding what exactly you want and what will be 'the best' way of achieving that goal.  I think violent revolution is too primitive for our society.

Not necessarily radical change, fundamental changes.

Well, a huge portion of the American people are uninformed and just dont give a shit.  As long as they buy shit that gives them the illusion of happiness and a productive life they will blindly accept whatever the government does.  Corporations are indirectly bribing the public into letting them hijack the government and turn it into a for-profit business.

It all starts with education and teaching history and culture more than math and science.  And until that happens, there's no way the people will be able to do it without violent revolution.

I like to say that education should be more than just teaching kids how to get a job.  It should also teach them how to be a good citizen, regardless of their political leanings.

Your education point is fair, but I would tweak it just a bit:

"It all starts with education and teaching more history, culture, and civics. They are just as important as math and science. And until that happens..."

Teaching them more than math and/or science would just put us further behind in the world.

I think this is more a reflection of our intense hatred for the bloated and inefficient federal government, not a belief that any one state would be better off by itself.

there is no way for radical changes without violence. that´s why democracies have institutions and laws and routines. if you think, you can do it better, than be a politician and do it better inside the system! everything else means chaos, violence and loss of innocent lives.
