Maybe the Saudis are finally making a friendly move towards their reluctant BFF America (the relationship has been pretty one-sided so far), but I believe they don't give a crap about the economic pain we're experiencing. They're smart enough to see how fast everyone's jumping on the hybrid/alternative fuel bandwagon and know they're days are numbered otherwise. What the hell would Saudi Arabia export if no one wanted oil? Oppression of women? Sand? No thanks.
So MSN is predicting this could be the end of OPEC. It would be nice to get rid of the oil cartel, but I don't know that I believe this is really it. The Saudis have been at odds with OPEC over production volumes the last few months. They're trying to raise production to lower costs, everyone else loves the high price of oil now, and the revenue it generates, and wants to decrease output to keep it high.MSN wrote:
Saudi Arabia walked out on OPEC yesterday. It said it would not honor the cartel's production cut. It was tired of rants from Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and the well-dressed oil minister from Iran.
