When Trumpets Fade -- pretty dark. special effects arent all that great but its definitely not a bad film. Its about the battle of Hurtgen forest during WW2. It came out I think in the 90's, its not very well known but if you're a WW2 buff you should definitely watch it.
Pans Labyrinth -- not really a war movie, it kind of mixes fantasy/war together but its pretty good if you dont mind reading subtitles (its in Spanish). Takes place during Spanish Civil War.
PATTON -- cant believe no ones mentioned this yet. WATCH IT.
Rescue Dawn -- came out last year, its about an American pilot who gets shot down over Laos during Vietnam. Pretty good.
Der Untergang (Downfall) -- another foreign film. About Hitler's last days in Berlin. Pretty damn good.
Southern Comfort -- again, not really a "war" film compared to others but its definitely worth checking out. Its about a National Guard unit in Louisiana that gets lost in Cajun country...... takes place during the Vietnam era and its about the Vietnam war, even though it doesnt take place in Vietnam. Pretty interesting.

Enemy at the gates.
wow. an american mentionning a european (even german) war movie and not recommending one of the ridiculously solemn american war movies like saving private ryan, enemy at the gates, black hawk down (i know, not ww2), we were soldiers (not ww2), tears of the sun (not ww2) etc.ATG wrote:

Saving Private Ryan and Enemy at the gates were very good films, this is from someone who isn't American.c14u53w172 wrote:

Enemy at the Gates is a popcorn flick. Mentioning it in the same sentence as SVP is a sin tbh.jord wrote:
