Hello,

I want to buy a new video card, but don't know which one, i don't want a new mobo, just a video card but don't know what's the max my mobo can handle.

I don't even know which mobo is in my case right now, any ways to check that?

I now have an Ati 1950x pro 256mb.

Help appreciated.

my mobo handles 4gb ram nicely, do you think it could handle a new video card like the 4850?

First: Download http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Then run it and take a screenshot of all the tabs

Upload them, and link here.

It will take HD4850 just fine

If you go looking around for a card, your will take a PCI-E card, not AGP.

hmm a celeron and only 1GB of ram. If you buy an 4850, it'll be seriously bottlenecked. Id say also get an extra gig of ram. 1GB is way to less when running vista.

GTX280 - CUDA FTW!

Actually, really, it all depends on what you want.

Are you gonna be buying lots of up-coming physics heavy games? If so, I'd go with a GTX280 - CUDA gives you hardware physics acceleration.

If your not, then a HD4850 is probaby the better choice (certainly in terms of price/performance).

But, as ']['error says - the rest of your system is gonna bottlneck either of these cards and you could really do with more RAM...

Don't get a new card. You need a whole new computer. You'd only notice a minimal performance increase with even tri-sli 280GTX'.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Also make sure your PSU can handle the card, too.
