I've got a Creative Audigy 2, and it has a digital output. I've also got Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 speakers, which have a digital sound input. I've got the digital cable (it's all gold and shiny ) but when I link them up, I only get sound coming out the right channel.

Do I need some software or is there a problem somewhere?

I think you need to buy an adapter in order to use the digital output unless you have an external rack. I'm not sure though.

It can look like this https://www.slo-comp.net/upload/cobra/news/CoBrA/1054146987Audigy2PLT_EX_c1.jpg or https://img.tomshardware.com/us/2002/11/06/a_prima_donna_on_pc/audigy2_2.jpg

You shouldn't have to. Theres probably just some setting messed up somewhere.

Just go into your sound setting and click to default everything, if that doesn't solve the problem you could have dirty terminal on your card. If the terminal has never been used the metal will naturally oxidize and may not make a great connection.
