I recently sat down for a bit of BF2 offline and wanted to play some music first to get amped.

I initiated winamp listened to a few tracks and then while winamp was still playing I initiated BF2 in offline mode to play while listening to music.

BF2 started to load properly and once the first screen loaded and went away my system locked up and the music stopped playing and started to make this horribly loud noise like the music was stuck at a certain point in a loop.

I let it go for about 2 min and then tried, alt+F4, F10, cont+alt+delete, esc and everything in between before I finally had to press and hold the power button to shut the system off.

When I rebooted everything seemed to work fine, I initiated winamp and started BF2 and it worked perfectly.

My question is should I be worried about my system locking up like that?

Is it a precursor to somthing major coming or from to much dust or do you guys think it was just random and that I shouldnt worry about it?

Thank you for any replies.

Could be random, but it does sound like your PC is somewhat unstable. You often get a similar problem if you PC is OCed too far. Monitor your temps. Check stability with intel burn test and ati tool. Do a memtest run

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Do you have nVidia nTune installed? If so, try uninstalling it... It made my computer go into hard-locks just like you described

I would get the exact same thing a few years ago. Turns out I had a shit ton of dust in the CPU cooler...

thank you for the replies.

I forgot to mention that the screen went solid black when it locked up and the music was stilllaying but it was stuck in a very tight loop and sounded horrible.

I do not have  nVidia nTune installed.

I did have major stability issues when I first built my system but it turns out I had a faulty MOBO which had to be RMA'ed and I have not had any problems since then.

My house is old and very dusty, so I hope that is what caused it.
I recently moved (2 days ago) and my new house is a new construction and very clean so I will clean my system out today with some spray air.

I will also follow the links MAX gave me and see if that shows any errors.

I hope it is just random or because of dust.

You guys think I should stress over it ?
I hate when my system is acting up
