hi,
i'm looking to get a new cpu and vid card around a budget of 300euro
current specs:
p4 2.8 ghz
1950xpro 256mb
4gb 800mhz geil ram
win xp 32

current mobo:
asus p5ld2

am also getting vista home premium 64 bit, was thinking of a HD4850, and a E8400.

need advice on:
can my mobo run those? and are there better decisions?
thanks

Any chance I could get your old P4?

EDIT: It's better than my 2.5Ghz. Karma for life..?

Too bad your system is LGA775.  I have a whole stack of S478 P4 chips in my office because I can't get decent boards for them any more.  I have a 2.8GHz, and several 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz.

I'm thinking about making some geek bling out of them.

Intel E8400 CPU and 4850 gfx card

Googled the mobo you currently have and it says it's Core 2 Duo compatible.

There's a difference between C2D support and 45nm 1333MHz FSB chips. I dunno anything about that board and cba to look it up, but double check it supports 45nm and 1333MHz FSB first.

The mobo does not support 45nm CPUs anyways.

HD4850 and E2xxx/E4x00/E6x50 is what you are looking for.

Was thinking of a E7300 actually, and a HD4850 any thoughts about the E7300?

E5200 tbh
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Neither. That mobo does not support 45nm processor. E2/E4/E6 only.

Do I have to say it 4th time?

Intel. 945s only take certain 65nm CPUs.

Sooo, a E5200 would work?

Getting a new mobo. It's pretty pointless to keep on going with those old 945s. A G31, 33 or even P35 could very well fit into your budget.
