This Monday, I was working as usual, when I got cramp in my hand for a good ten minutes. Since then, there has been dull ache in my hand (middle of my palm) when I move it in certain directions or grab/grasp in certain ways. I would normally put that down to just the ache you get after really bad cramp, but I only got cramp in one hand, and the ache is in both. I have a really bad feeling it could be RSI (repetitive strain injury) starting early I'm 16, I use my hands all day at work, spend a lot of time at the PC, play guitar, and click my knuckles and wrists as a really bad habit.

Could this be RSI? And if it is, is there any way I can stop or even prevent it?

Thanks

Try spending less time on the PC and stop cracking your knuckles? What exactly do you with your hands at work? Try taking breaks and stretch out often. Make sure you get some decent exercise into your day as well.

I clean stuff and then pack it (lame job I know, but it pays well , and will do till College starts). I try and avoid spending as much time as I do on the computer, but my course at College is going to be pretty much all PC/Instrument work so that isn't going to help it

Get a mousepad with a wrist support. They really help. I started to get it a year or two ago and got one and it really helped. Make sure you have a good mouse that you find really comfortable; I was using this super thin mouse, and it really fucked with my hand. I then bought my G5 and a wrist supporting mousepad and it's been fine since. I'm assuming of course that you mean that you think it's your computer that's doing it to you.

The computer is definitely having an affect on it. Is there anything I can use when using the keyboard?

Yeah you can get gel type pad things that you can rest your wrist on I think. They should be pretty good, although I never got one because I only had the problem in my right hand.

I experienced the same problem, when I tried my friends MX518 for a few weeks my hand was like a rabbit with miximotosis, twitching like fuck, then went back to my G5 and all was good (I think it was designed to prevent RSI)

My advice, take regular breaks from the computer and try and use more keyboard shortcuts

What mouse are you using?

Hi,

Ask your boss for RSI Software,
Its mostly free and it's quite handy.
I don't know what the software does quite exactly.

Btw, is there MRI free hardware?
