If you do the above you're in in four spins of the 2. Remember to delete the existing favourites out of general.con and then read-only.

Yes, it is true. Like cheez says, during logon, it pings servers, so if you have 100 servers in that list it will take longer to ping than 5 servers.
oh is that why when i look in my faves all the pings are 4000+ when i never go in a server with a ping above 100.
better clear that out
and whats all the undefined shit you cant delete?

Squadbuster, the pings are all over the place due to Gamespy server issues atm, the servers should still be running fine.
You can get rid of all the crap manually like so...
1. Open 'My Documents/BF2/Profiles/0001/general.con' using Notepad (0001 is your first profile, 0002 your second, etc).
2. Scroll to the bottom of the file where you will see a list of server names and IPs.
3. Delete the entire line of text for each server you wish to remove.
4. Save and close the file.
Job done!

Aye then make your config read only into the bargain. I did this years ago and it dramatically reduced my startup times (especially when a server in my favourites was down, it would take AGES to start up -- I assume the game was sitting there pinging servers and timing out ...)
No movies, no favourites etc. = much faster.
