I wear glasses. I don't mind them but I look sexier without them.

Contact lenses - I don't like the idea of touching my eyes.

LASIK - Dear god. To put it in perspective, I can watch 2 Girls 1 Cup all day and not feel sick. Watching one minute of a laser eye surgery video makes me scared for my life.

Shit even with glasses my vision isn't totally perfect, I think. Maybe it's cause I have an old prescription but... for example, I'm sitting in class and the writing on the blackboard looks kinda blurry to me yet my friend sees it fine.

You need a new set of specs cat...no question about it.  I can't handle the thought of Lasik either, even though I know it's no different from other surgery...I dunno man...

Get a new set of glasses and see if that doesnt change the way you view the world (sorry for the pun...)

btw...I wear glasses too, I've tried contacts and frankly, just can't be arsed to fool with the maintenance...worn glasses since I was 4...

@TC.Troy I got a new prescription the other day. I have to actually get new lenses now >_>

Also guys. I'd rather have a vasectomy (when the time comes of course!) than LASIK. With a vasectomy you can be under anesthesia.

There is no genetic surgery for perfect vision. Infact, what is this genetic surgery you speaketh of. Maybe you'd be able to genetically modify a zygote so that when the baby comes out, It has genes that = better vision that isn't as prone to fucking up as most people have.

The only thing I can think of is nano technology/nano machines and all that shit that would be in your eye and basically you'd have a biomechanical eye that's just as good as a new one. Maybe even....better.

so, dude, get the new lenses...otherwise its a waste of time and money.  You cannot and should not screw around with your eyesite.

I suggest you really look into the whole contact lenses thing, I wear lenses myself and I absolutely LOVE them. I prefer them over glasses, because really, glasses still have the 'nerdy' tag at young ages. The thing is, lenses are awesome to wear, and give you no problems whatsoever when taken care of properly.

I wear contact lenses.

Man up and wear them you pussy. You don't touch your eyes, and it's really simple to take them in and out, clean them, etc. You don't even need disposable ones, you can buy contacts that last +8 hours you soak in a solution over night. Get soft silicone contacts (you can say you have a pair of silicone implants to strike up a conversation with some hot chicks lolwut).

I never wear glasses outside of the house anymore.

I don't know about laser surgery, I may consider it when I'm older. But I've heard they only laser one eye and the other learns to compensate the difference. I don't know enough about it though, cause the contacts are so fine.

Nanotech, gene tech, it's all the same to me. They all mean "superpowers" >_>

Maybe I should major in engineering with a focus on nanotech. Then build myself little nanobots like in MGS.

Jebus I've been told that many times... I just can't bring myself to do it I was considering them seriously at one point, but when the doc came in to try them out I chickened out.

Agreed 100%, but as I said, we all arent cut out to be bothered with the contact "do this, do that" (it was a pain in my ass really)...otherwise, I think everyone that needs corrective vision should have'em.

See this cat is the kind of person contacts were made for:

Also I don't see how contacts are always simpler. With glasses I flip the arms out and put them on, end of story. Contacts: soak in solution, put them in eye, blink, make sure it's in tight. Then at night, touch lens to move it so you can pinch it out, throw in solution / trash. And it's a bit easier to lose a small clear piece of plastic than glasses.

That was cool. You're a pansy.

In order to fly (both civilian and military aircraft) I might get LASIK or PRK surgery. I know a bunch of people who have gone through LASIK and they said they didn't feel a thing.

The worst part of that video was when they took the (I think) cornea off. Everything else wasn't that bad.

Edit: If you REALLY don't want corrective surgery, just get contacts. I'm serious. I've had them for 7 years now and I love them. So useful. You'll be amazed when you first put them on.

If it's IntraLASIK (where they cut the flap with a laser) then yes that part makes me shit bricks. If it's normal LASIK (where they use a microkeratome to cut the flap) then the cutting of the flap with a fucking knife makes me shit bricks.

I don't think you're allowed to fly an aircraft without perfect eyesight, even AFTER having surgery.

PS: One time I kept my contacts in for a whole week, without taking them out. Probably unhealthy, but meh.

That's what I'd get. IntraLASIK. Whatever.

Well, I'll agree that having a knife cut my eye would seem kind of scary...but in the end, it's worth it. Let's see, pussy out of an hour or so procedure and not fly jets for the rest of my life, or do the procedure for an hour or so and fly jets for the rest of my life.

Pretty easy decision imo.

The U.S. Air Force approves the use of PRK[4] and recently approved LASIK (pilots must have LASIK performed by Air Force Ophthalmologists at Wilford Hall Medical Center).[5].

So neener neener neener.

And yes, that's very bad. I used to do that too (like 3 years ago) and my optometrist told me that I actually WOULDN'T be able to get PRK if I kept doing it. Now, I take them out every night and put them in their case.

Well, even better. 10 minutes to allow me to fly without contacts for the rest of my life? I'll take it.

Speaking of which, I have to get my class 3 medical this month so I can get my PPL.

the best part is when they strap the eye cup to hold back your eye lids and the laser begins .... they peel back your correna and its like a page turning in a book except you go blind for a few secs

Wow.

When you have laser eye surgery you ARE unconscious right?
