Thinking of buying Battlefield 2: The complete collection.

No seriously.

I am considering it.

Yesterday me and a boyfriend of mine got really bored. Well it is school holidays and most of the other schools haven't got out yet.
So we decided to board a tram and head over to an internet cafe.
Well, We could of gone back to mine, But my internet was and still is capped.

So yeah, We got over the the cafe, Basically nobody was there and we paid the $3 and something for about an hour or two.

I have to admit, The game selections were bad.
I mean,

World of Warcraft? Wtf.

We eventually decided on Battlefield 2: Special Forces.

Alright, Shouldn't be a problem. I should be able to use my 2142 skills with BF2.

I also must admit that the online is actually kinda better that 2142, And that's kinda what I'm looking for.
15 minutes into the game and I had already gotten the Purple Heart award or w/e. I like to be the medic

But anyway.

The complete collection actually looks very tempting as it's about $25-40 on eBay Australia, And $45 at the local retail store.

So I dunno.

With previous experience with BF2142, And almost no experience with BF2 (Apart from that 1 hour before, in which I managed to learn the fundamentals, Such as not to hold the trigger down with the support gun. )

What do you say?

BF2 > BF2142 honestly. If I was playing BF2142 in ignorance of BF2 I might have thought the game was just fine, but in my opinion BF2142 is every bit the inferior game to BF2 as BFV was to BF1942. The complete collection is still worth the money more than most games.

If you do get it, make sure it's the complete collection, otherwise you have to download the latest patch which is 500MB+ then install it after the game. If you get the complete collection, the patch should be included in the game installation.

I'd say go for it. It provided me with many hours of entertainment.

A worthy purchase, and you can find a few servers running Armored Fury and Euro Forces. They add even more to the BF2 experience with scout helicopters, bombers, a nice PLA CQC map and a new faction.

I got it for forty bucks at Best Buy. A worthy purchase, and everything's on one DVD. Patch 1.41 included.

But yeah, Just wondering, If I could handle 2142 at like everything on High/Medium @ 800x600, What detail would I be able to handle BF2 at?

Oh for gods sake turn that resolution to 1280x1024 (Or 1280x960 if you have a CRT monitor). Even if it makes you have to turn the settings down a bit.

As for the performance, the games are pretty equal. BF2 is less intensive if any difference.

The only thing I like about 2142 is the part where you board the enemy ship thingy. That's epic.

Either way, if you don't want to become frustrated from dying a lot, its better to keep your graphic settings low, that way you wont lag, and you can move around in game better without worrying about all those fancy shaders and 3d shadows slowing ya down.

You'll also find, that if you have that fancy stuff turned off, you can see enemies WAY better. Also, you'll load into games faster before other people, so generally you can have your choice of vehicles.

I've played this game for like, two years now and have 170,000 points ya, its pretty fun even still today.

More pixels.

Test it, really. Put 800x600 and then 1600x1200. The difference is like night and day. I would not recommend gaming at lower than 1024x768 in any case ever.

Decent resolution is like AA for me. Can't play without.

I really don't notice a big difference on whether I have low (2x) or high (8x) AA.

For me it's Resolution>Model>Texture>Terrain>Shadow>AA.

Same or a little better. Tip: turn lighting to low, resolution to you monitor's native resolution, draw distance at 100%, and geometry on medium/high if possible. With lighting on low, maps like Strike at Karkand and Warlord will look ugly, but you will be able to see enemies WAAAAY better; geometry and view distance will make players visible when farther away. Considering that you have been playing at 800x600, dont bother with AA. _{(inb4peoplewithAAfetishes)}

Another thing, in the sound settings, use medium AT LEAST. Low sounds like a crappy youtube video, and (I think) gets rid of some sounds that can help spot enemies. Also, if you dont have an EAX card, dont enable EAX as it can drag FPS down quite a bit.
