Sound skips with new speakers.

Specs:

Speakers - Logitech Z-5500 surround sound.
Sound card - Creative X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion.

Basically, every 10 minutes or so. The sound will cut out for about a second, the song, or film or game or whatever is playing will be like muted for a second. And then continue. Very very annoying during good bits of songs.

Any idea what could cause it?

Windows media player I use for songs, does it in that. VLC for films does it in that. Does it in Youtube aswell.

I'll try another defrag, but I have done one before and it didn't fix it.

Try this: Go under control panel>Sounds and audio devices>audio tab>then advanced under "sound playback">performance tab-move the slider for "Hardware Acceleration" all the way to the left "None".

And Bob, the sound doesn't skip on my headphones. Don't have any other speakers.

Is it plugged directly into the sound card? If so, something is probably wrong with the sound card itself, or the connection.

Lol they are just not meant for him. Awesome speakers though. Have you checked your outlets if the work okay? Fluctuation may damage the speakers.

I don't have a 3.5mm jack to test, but I will get hold of one. This would bring it to lucky three right now. It is not plugged into card, but into a port on front below the dvd drive by Coax cable.

Yup. It could. Dodgy power can cause the problem and rubbish fuses, like the ones logitech use, don't protect the speakers properly from many types of power abnormalities.

I've seen 6 sets of 5500s either not working properly or dying because of not having a decent fuse in. It's the No. 1 reason people RMA 5500 speaker sets, which is a shame since they're very nice speakers and changing a fuse is a damn sight quicker than a whole RMA process.

No, be a damn man, take the fuse out and look what kind it is.

Usually will say something like 15A stamped into the metal of it. buy one that looks the same, and has the same rating.

Though i don't see how a higher quality fuse is gonna do anything. The only real difference it could make is if the caps of the fuse (assuming its the cylindrical fuse type) were corroded or have some kind of coating...

The fuse isn't gonna clean up the power or "protect from power abnormalities" besides blowing at a certain rating. The fuse could be more exactly designed to blow at the correct rating I guess, but if this is a problem of the fuse not having blown when it could it was already overloaded and the damage is already done...

Check the fuse itself, make sure it sits nicely in its location, that the contacts are clean... if the fuse holder is spring loaded ensure the spring has proper tension. Then check all connections.

does the cutting out happen when you move about or shake the desk/table they are on?

Hey Vicktor, check online. This is a very common problem with the fuse's that come with the speakers. They are sending me the right one out for free. I will also do a format when I get it, and let you guys know if it fix's it.

You may as well go get some of your own mate for future use
Just check what amperage the current fuse is (will say it on the fuse, example 5, 10, 15) and take it to a hardware store.

I did. The common problem with logitechs supplied time delay fuse is that it is easily blown. You said your problem is intermittent, if it was the fuse blowing it would just turn off and not turn back on. That is the problem everyone is having.
Unless its a breaker with a reset switch once its tripped power will no longer flow through the unit.

Do you lose power or just sound? If it turns on its not your fuse.
