I am in the market for an lcd tv, and i don't know what to get. i won't really be watching movies or anything on it, just hd channels like espn and stuff and the occasional 360 game. is it worth it to spend the extra money for 1080p, or should i just go with 720p?

i don't want to spend more than $1000, and i would like for the tv to be at least 40".

link me plz (preferably newegg)

A good company, a big TV, full 1080p and it's got some great reviews.

However, if you can shell out the extra cash, I'd get this:

Samsungs kick ass.

1080p is the way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. The way of the future. /howardhughes

The difference between 1080p and 1080i/720p on a 40+" TV is pretty substantial.

I can tell and I've only got a 32" LCD TV (1080p). That says something. Plus, aren't you getting a PS3 soon?

1080p for anything over 47" under that, it won't really make a difference.

Extra cash to buy the full HD. It would look nice when you hook your pc to the tv, thats for sure.

Hi ig mutant
I always said don't go full Hd unless your TV is bigger than 40". So in this case we should go for full hd.
Ok brands I recommend: Samsung, LG.
I have a high end Samsung 32" and a friend just got a low end LG. The LG was cheap, has a lot of connections, picture quality difference is minimal, but features I miss on the LG would make me buy a higher end TV any day- direct PC source button (click on that and takes you to your PC source right away rather that going through 10 different sources to reach your PC output), PiP-picture in picture (watch football and at the same time porn in a small window. Anyone comes, just quickly close the small window) I also like Samsung's menu more user friendly. I'd also like to know how big your room is and from what distance are you going to watch it before I recommend anything.

Is Vizio any good?
Yes. Vizio is an up and coming brand is now competing with Sharp Aquos/Sony Bravias/Samsung...whatevers now. They're a good choice. Especially at that price.

Another good one.

And my room is small too, and a 42" TV would fit just as well as my 32" does.

If the TV is 40'' and above then sure go for the 1080, otherwise it's a fairly small difference.  And I agree with .Sup, samsung and LG seem to have there act together the best, and sharps are pretty nice tv's to.  Not a fan of sony's latest designs, or there prices.

Contrast is important aswell, although dont trust the quotes figures, to my knowledge there is no industry standard, so one might quote 10,000 and another 30,000 for the same thing.  Really is a case of checking the reviews and going to see them yourself.
