Out teacher made us write down a bunch of questions on paper and answer them as a homework assignment.
The first was "What are the connector types for the 1394a interface" So I wrote 4, 6  and 9 pin firewire.

Second was "Type of rom that can be reprogrammed with software when still physically installed on the computer"
I wrote EEPROM

-"Two catergories used to classify CPU architect"
-"Type of Memory Primarily used as cache memory"
-"How many connectors are found in a SATA data cable"
^^^I'm left clueless on.

How is any of that essential for anything lol?

i think the answer to the SATA question is 7 pin connectors??????  yes/no/maybe?

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ef/SATA_Data_Cable.jpg
one of these is 7 pin

and im guessing the architecture question is along the lines of x86??

i no,rite
I seriously have no clue it's like our whole first chapter is knowing all the types of ram, memory, and cables/connectors.
And next chapter is like 'Troubleshooting' or something...bleh. Thought this course would be exciting.

makes sense to you...sure doesnt to me lol

just RAM dude.  Random Access Memory.

as for the architecture one, it's a little ambiguous.

Two categories used to classify CPU architect (this is too ambiguous)

ALU [ arithmetic and logical unit ]

CU [ control unit ]

I'm still wondering about that ram thing though....there has to be a ram type focused primarily on cache or else she wouldn't have asked...

never heard of that.  the only SRAM i know is the bike transmission company.

what does this class have to do with IT anyway - cache memory?  CPU architecture?  details of SATA cables?  come on

I would have said RISC (reduced instruction set chip) and CISC (complex instruction set chip). Any PC CPU you use is going to be CISC. CISC chips can do a lot more, but are slightly slower. RISC chips, like alpha processors, are faster since they don't have as many options to work through, but can't do some of the more advanced functions that the CISC can. No, I don't have examples.

Edit: Afroman's link beat me to it.

The acronym RISC (pronounced risk), for reduced instruction set computing (as used in DEC Alpha, MIPS, Power Architecture (including PowerPC), SuperH, and SPARC);

CISC for Complex Instruction Set Computer (as used by Intel x86, Pentium and Core-2 Duo processors and IBM 360 series).

What about it
I was planning on taking the 4 credits for $192 and CompTIA test

I was guessing she meant ISA but I hadn't found the 'Two categories to classify cpu architect'
