  • Looking for a good PC component store in Houston, Texas

I'm leaving for Houston tomorrow, and will return Sunday in a week. I want to use this oppertunity to buy som tech (It's under half price compared to Norway)

EndPCNoise.com say that an order being shipped to Houston, Texas takes typically 5 business days. 6 days is too much, so I don't want to take that risk.

Newegg.com won't give me a timespan, but they use "UPS Ground" as well, so I assume the delivery time is about the same.

So I guess I'll have to buy it the old fashioned way - IRL I've never bought PC components in a store in the US before, and I have no idea where to get it. I don't have a single name.

What I need:
- ATi HD4850
- AC Accelero S1
- Acoustipack
- Nexus Real Silent Case Fan

So if anyone of you know about a store that sells anyone of these products in Houston, please tell me!

thanks <3

You can upgrade the shipping for extra $.

Go to Fry's electronics. Their site is messed up right now, but you can google their address. Remember we have sales tax in Texas, so add about 8% to the price of anything you buy.

Because f*ck you that's why.

Yea, I was gonna say Fry's.  They seem to be everywhere.

Newegg promises delivery by third business day. I got a harddisk off of newegg delivered in two business days just the other day.

Also remember that if you order off newegg inside Texas you don't have to pay the eight and a quarter sales tax, that helps some of the shipping.

As far as Fry's vs. Newegg pricing, for actual computer components that people don't know shit about (processors, video cards, motherboards) there is a big mark up on inferior tech and you're much better going off newegg if buying in bulk. Basically if you just need one or two things and you need them now then Fry's really isn't too bad, but if you're buying a whole computer for example the difference is significant. Everything else works out about even or in Newegg's favor because of state tax, especially when you get free UPS ground on a fair amount of newegg items.

Cool. Enjoy your trip. I just got back from Houston last night. Too bad our time didn't overlap.

Just as a follow-up:

Newegg is a pain in the ass. For some reason they needed a 1-800 number to my credit card company, so that rules out all Norwegian cards. I had to use Dad's Amex. I also had to have an American Billing adress, so I had to use Dad's office in Seattle, and the Hotel's adress as shipping adress. I also needed an American phone number, so I used the hotel's.

Newegg say: "Our Verification procedures require both your billing and shipping address, and one phone number to match with the information your debit or credit card provider has on file."

ya, I have none of that. Gawd. This resulted in a panic trip to Circuit City, buying a VisionTek 4850 for $200 (it was the last one they had).

EndPCNoise.com ftw. They only needed the card number, CCV and shipping info. And they sent the package 3 hours after I ordered it.

That was utterly gay of Newegg.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

What NewEgg was trying to do was prevent credit card fraud. Kudos to NewEgg for being so thorough. Sucks that you couldn't get what you wanted from them, though. Why not just mail it to your Dad's place in Seattle and next time he is in Norway have him bring it???
