Matching ties with shirts

Does anybody have any advice for matching dress shirts with ties?

I have a dark red shirt and I need some sort of tie that matches with it. I only have a blue/silver striped tie.

Any other sort of matching combinations? I have a light blue shirt that goes with the tie.

I would go with a black colored tie for that shirt, and keep that tie for white/blue shirt.

Anything that compliments each other, but you can wear that tie with that shirt and it wouldn't look bad. Maybe even some white slacks to tie it all together and show that you are an America-lover.

All black or all white. Generally speaking go for contrast. When it comes to something like Red, black or white works well.

Plain black suit, plain white shirt and plain black tie (aka FBI/Government style or whatever) is what I always roll in when I have to suit up. Always an awesome and simple combination.

If you actually got an American flag tie, it would definately shoot you up the metrosexual scale.

Unless you're going to a salsa club, I would get rid of the shiny red shirt and keep the tie. Go with a white, very light yellow or pastel blue shirt and you can wear almost any tie (unless it's one of those fish ties).

I'm wearing a tux and black pants with that shirt so I think a black tie would be overdoing it. Would a gold tie work?

Anyways, I'm going to the homecoming dance with that tomorrow.

Don't listen to mek.

It's fun to find oddball colors and match ties with them. Plus chicks (and especially old women) love it. If you have an interview or formal event, yes, go with muted colors and sports coats, but a nice evening out is a good excuse to throw on some dress clothes and feel good about the way you look.

Forget what I said about the shirt in the last post, since it's a homecoming dance, it's okay to be a little flashy. But no gold tie.

Well I'm just more of a simple guy when it comes to dressing up. I mean, simple doesn't mean cheap or tacky. Just.....simple and clean. If you know what I mean.

I have some odd ball stuff to. Sometimes I do my usual black/white/black combo, but I wear a pink shirt instead

Black suit, pink shirt, black tie. Works nice.

Bow ties are old school. His plain black tie will work with that shirt and a black suit. Especially if his homecoming is at night.

I need a red tie. I've always wanted to do the '47 flex (except for the shaving the head thing....maybe..)

As for the OP. A white tie would look good with a black suit and that red shirt.

Just go for a black or white tie.

I've got a combo I call my autumn selection. It's this muted orange shirt and a striped tie with a bunch of colors, including a nice orange. I thought it would look funny when I bought it, but it actually looks pretty good. I've got another one I call the Kobe that's a pastel purple shirt with a light yellow tie.

I know, it sounds faggy that I have names for outfits, but it makes it easier to distinguish them, plus everyone laughs when I tell them and I like to make people laugh.

Hmmm...the only black tie I have is this ratty one that's way too small.

The blue tie actually looks pretty dark when it's out of the light which will be pretty much all of the dance.

I know right? That black tie is horrible. Anyways I'm out of options for a black or white unless I go buy one.

In the dance, the tuxes all go away so I'd say a white tie wouldn't work.

I'll try to beg for a black tie...it'll match my hair.
