And I'm absolutely shitting it. I have to spend the night at my nans, then get a train from aldershot to London, which is about an hour long, and then 2 tubes to.....Hackney. I'm not even worrying about college itself, it's gonna be fucking kickass, but the fact that it's in Hackney, and I hate travelling, let alone on my own, on the tube is fucking killing me. Anyone have any advice about getting rid of nerves/travelling on the tube at all? It would be so well appreciated

When you mean college, do you mean Uni?

Or are you doing all of this travelling, to a college (as in, for your A levels?)

That's quite alot of travelling for college. It's rare that people do that much and even stay away from home for their A levels.

I'm not quite following you here

I'm pretty sure he means college. A brit/european wouldn't mix the two up.

Yeh I mean college. But it's like advanced. You pay like Uni, and I'm doing a Diploma course, but I'm only 16. It's a specialist music production college, so like thats why I had to move for it

Alcohol.

Seriously, when Im nervous about something (i.e. exams), Im nervous that morning up until the point I leave home and get on my way, when I just have to deal with it and get on with it. No other choice.
Try music, etc, or something to keep your mind occupied from the obvious (with regards to Hackney )

Too much rubbing with other passengers.

...and? Is SS like claustrophobic or something? I don't think it's a very big deal...much less so than going to a supposedly shitty area.

If it's your first time on the London tube system, it can be very overwhelming and confusing, especially on your own.

I went on the London tube for the first time in July and honestly it isn't as bad as you might think. Just mind your own business and go about your own way and you'll wonder what you were worrying about. Don't get me wrong, it's obviously chaotic, but the trains come so often you don't need to push people out the way to get on.

Fuck me what an awesome day. Cheers for your advice everyone xD My next question is as such!
It's cost me £20.20 to get to and from college today using a one day travel card. I'm starting my journey outside of London so an oyster card won't help i don't think. I can't get a student travel card because I am travelling at an offpeak travel times. Does anyone know of anyway I can reduce the cost of my travelling. Pretty much anything that doesn't involve rape/threatening/hiding on the train without paying. Just a way I can get cheaper rates really Also, if anyone knew some cool places around Hoxton I think it is, that I can take a look at on my lunch break Cheers guys.

Dude £20 is way too much for a daily trip.  Get a season ticket for bus/trains outside london.  Make sure you get hold of a young persons railcard too.

And get a Oyster for within Greater London.

My employers provide interest free loans for people to get hold of season tickets, might be worthwhile asking around college if a similar facility exist for students.

Sorry I may be being a bit fucking stupid here lololo long day ftl. It's saying that because my ticket is above the minimum fare, it can take 1/3 off ?
If so thats fucking awesome. Also, cheers Mek, shall look into that. I won't move to Hackney because I only have to do 3 days of college a week The rest I wanna see my gf etc and if I was renting I would be paying for 4 days I wasn't there for =/

The young persons railcard will help you take a 1/3 off these tickets:

    *  Off-Peak Day Singles and Returns
    * Anytime Day Singles and Returns
    * Anytime Singles and Returns
    * Most Rail Rovers
    * Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak
    * ALL Standard Class Advance*
    * First Class Advance* on CrossCountry, East Midlands Trains, First Great Western, National Express East Coast and Virgin Trains services
    * The Weekender
    * Gatwick Express, Stansted Express, Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect services
    * London Zone 1-6 Off-Peak Day Travelcard (subject to a minimum fare) and on some ticket types offered by individual Train Companies. Please enquire locally for details
    * Oyster (Transport for London) - Get your Railcard discount loaded on to your Oyster card to save 1/3 on the daily cap on pay as you go
    * PLUSBUS - unlimited bus travel at your origin / destination station with participating operators. Visit plusbus.info or ask at your local station ticket office for further details.

* These tickets need to be booked before you travel.

It may still be benefical to purchase a season ticket rather than relying on a young person rail card.  Go to the ticket office and enquire about a season ticket for the journey you make.  You can buy them weekly, monthly, bi-annualy and annually.  The longer the ticket duration the more savings you make.

I dont know if you're old enough to open a graduate account but they used to offer a 5 year young persons rail card free when you opened an account with one of the big banks (i think it was natwest) as an incentive.

Does anyone know why a 16+ oyster card gives you a massive discount, but an 18+ doesn't give you anything unless you buy a travel card?

Doesn't make any sense that they give you a huge discount when your education is generally free, but when your paying your way through your degree they decide to charge you more too.

Hackney is a bit of a shithole yeah, but it's not that bad. And you don't have anything to worry about travelling on your own or going on the tube once you get used to it you'll be fine.
