Uh, yeah.
Having problems with Avira? Then why switch.
And ignore the no AV cult.

Get NOD32. Best out of the lot.
Oh yeah lets not have a simple security solution because we think its COOL..Sup wrote:

OT: Nod32 has served me well.
Try Avast!.
What's so stupid about not having an app that eats RAM and nags the hell out of you?Zimmer wrote:

I haven't used any anti-virus for well over a year, and I haven't had a single virus since then, with the exception of a tracking cookie or two.
Anti-virus programs are overrated, as long as you think before you download, you're pretty much immune.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Or you can have them all. Also spybot can be very useful especially with the immunizing ability
The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.
Why the fuck would that be a stupid comment? I have no AV for a year now on none of my PCs and I haven't got a single virus or trojan. I ran Panda's online scaner every 3 months-it hasn't reported any malware.Zimmer wrote:

When you use your PC to actually do work for money; its not a risk you should take.Freezer7Pro wrote:

edit: Granted I understand why you say it, because I thought the same way for the longest time.

An online scanner does not scan as well as a native AV.
Once again, why do you ignorant fucks think you can only get viruses from deliberately downloading "XXX HOT LESBIAN SECHS" from limewire?
Professional security analytics run anti virus on their computers, and I'm pretty damn sure they know more about malicious software than you people that are "too cool" for anti virus.
And I'm sorry, if you think anti viruses use too much RAM, then you're running a 10 year old PC. My Avast is currently using no more than 40MB of RAM.
Also, no matter what kind of computer user you are, running Windows you WILL get spyware, and there's a high chance you'll pick up a virus or trojan somewhere along the way. It's fact, so stop being arrogant.

If i have a virus on my machine right now then they should be my buddies, they do no harm to me.CrazeD wrote:

On a serious note:
I understand what J is trying to say, if I was working for money on my PC i would also have an Av installed, just to be 100% sure I'm safe.

And to your point about performance and wasted resources ... it negligible ... FF and Outlook far crush SAV for resources ...Freezer7Pro wrote:

NOD32 has never nagged me, uses 0.005% of my RAM and does it's job perfectly ( blocked bad sites instantly, removed trojan without huge flashing messages, destroyed risky files without any stupid warnings ).
Get your facts right. Unless you are on Norton or Karspersky, AVs do not eat up that much RAM.
Just running without ANYTHING puts you in a high-risk zone, yes. And no, you don't have to download something to get a virus. I'm not saying you should disable everything you can - you shouldn't. You should instead be smart. For instance, running NoScript in Firefox neutralizes 90% of the sites that spread malicious code. Being logged in as a user and not an admin prevents a lot of malware from manifesting. Using a firewall (any firewall) will prevent telenetting and such.CrazeD wrote:

If you have a router, use of a firewall is just being paranoid. I've used firewalls in the past, but all they did was annoy me. If you want a good firewall, get hardware ones.
And firewalls don't stop viruses. Neither does NoScript. NoScript may minimize spyware, but it won't help with viruses.

They don't destroy viruses; They prevent viruses from getting there in the first place.CrazeD wrote:

As for firewalls, I prefer using software ones; I'm often on the move, and my router is broken. Lot easier to manage, too.
EDIT:
I installed Avira, just for the joy of proving you wrong:
The two detections are both the same (One in the zip file that contains the exe, and one in the exe), as well as false alarms. Delf.csa is used in a program for TCP/UDP/HTTP bombing.
This is an about two months old Windows install, under only the protection of the Windows firewall, NoScript and AdBlock Plus. And I can't say I'm particularly careful with my networking.
