I'm pretty sure every sin is forgivable..
Thats what priests say when you're about to die, to calm you. I disagree.

The only reason priests would get you to repent on your death bed, was so that you would ask for forgiveness, and as proof of your new found devotion you would have to leave all your possessions to the Church, rather than family.

It's something that they'd have great success trying on Kings too, who would leave large land holdings to the Church upon dying to bribe their way into heaven.

Can't bribe your way into heaven.

The only sin that is not forgiven is renouncing one's profession of faith in Christ.  I'm pretty sure the passage is in the book of Hebrews.

The only unforgivable sin, according to the Bible, is rejecting the Holy Ghost. Flat out saying, "I deny the Holy Ghost" is an unforgivable sin.

In that case, just to make sure, Fuck the Holy Ghost, I deny the Holy Ghost.

Now I'm completely atheist.

Don't people go to some place after you die to repent your sins?

I think that is how it would be repented.

On the subject though, I thinnk the problem is that you have to repent in life or in Purgatory. I guess you can't say "forgive me for what I'm about to do" because if you really repented then you wouldn't have done it in the first place right? The whole Purgatory repenting is a bit tough too since you don't get to go there if you're a suicide case.

I think that all sins are meant to be forgivable, I think it's just significantly harder if you're a suicide case.
Well that's just Dante's thoughts about the subject. I don't recall the Church sanctioning his work as a truism of Christianity that it's exactly as he put it, because Dante was just writing his thoughts on Catholicism and Florentine politics, among a few other things.

Yes but importantly Dante's works are interesting so fuck it if they're true to Christianity or not.

This is so true.  I was fascinated when I read The Divine Comedy.

I was rather enthralled while reading Inferno, but parts of the Bible are interesting, too, though. Some parts...

I'm just going to throw this out here, but suicide is illegal.  Most of you probably already knew this but just saying...

I always find that fact kind of strange actually. So suicide is illegal, it's not like you can be charged or fined for it.

Now I'm laughing 'cause I'm getting a mental image of a cop handcuffing a corpse and reading it it's Miranda rights.

Since God isn't real, it doesn't really matter if you kill yourself or not.

It takes blind faith to believe in a punishment for renouncing it. I've never been able to see that as anything other than a tool to herd sheep.

Murder and suicide in most religions are unforgivable and killing yourself in more strict religions means hell.

interesting thing is that suicide is also an unforgivable sin in islam, but on the other hand dying for your religion, as we know, has great rewards. stupid mofo terrorists seem to interpret suicide bombing as the latter.

Attempted suicide should be illegal for wasting police/hospital time.

If you make a good job of it then well done, you got the balls to not pussy around being an attention seeking emo and did it. The end.
