So i've been playing the guitar for about 3-4 years now and i just finally decided to start trying to do sweep picking. While i was practicing, i noticed that i can't move my hands fast enough and they get very stiff. I know the strength of my hand isn't the problem, it's my inability to move my fingers smoothly, so does anyone have any suggestions on how i can improve the quality on my finger movements? any suggestions are appreciated
..All I can help with is bass guitar.
Look up for finger exercises for card manipulation though. They might help.

I know Will personally and he takes this stuff seriously. His DVDs are great and not badly priced. He personally answers questions.

cards are good.
so is anything fiddly - model making, wiring etc.
it does take time though, and probably the best way is just keep hammering that fret board til you can do it.

Well first of all, I don't recommend playing one without the other for too long.
I started out with guitar, and now it's impossible to play for me because the strings seem so damn close to each other.
I think my main suggestions would be to practice (obviously) a lot, and get calluses on your fingers. Playing bass for the first times can hurt a little.
Also, use your pinky. It can be an invaluable asset. srsly
I haven't played in awhile, but here are some songs that I liked playing:

Edit: ..and watch the Blues Brothers. Best movie ever.
