Heres the same Seagate with a smaller cache for ~$25 less

Im not sure how much cache can affect performance, but I think 16vs32 wouldnt be tooo much of a difference

thats my suggestion for cpu ram and motherboard. and get a gtx 280 if you can afford it. whilst the ati cards can kill it fps wise, they dont maintain as much of a consistant frame rate.

The Antec 900 and 1200 are great cases... but i was at a microcenter where a tech friend works and he showed me the Coolermater HAF(High air flow) case... This case is really nice... it's very solid and moves a ton of air... I am buying one in the next couple of days... I saw it at a Microcenter store... you can hide the wires behind the motherboard and it's tool less to add drives... and it has airplane propeller fans to cool it...lol

COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail

another thing to consider is the processor... the Q6600 is 190 bucks... and from reports it seems to be a good choice for the money... easily oc'd to 3.0 if needed...   the 9450 is a good proc also... just a little money savings with the 6600

and the thing i recommend the most is a great PS... I have a 650 watt Antec and it works perfectly... I bought a non name brand PS awhile back and wasn't very consistent power wise... The PS is proabaly the most important item in a computer...

The ATI cards are really great also... I'm getting the 4870 1gb myself... the nvidias are strong also... and there are some really good deals out there...

and the motherboard i'm buying for a new comp... i asked my tech friend and he said this board was good
Gigabyte... I have an Asus now and it's been great... I still may go for a new Asus when i buy...

good luck and check different forums... anandtech and toms hardware... people are brutally honest if they have an issue with a part...
and always be wary of the fanboys who don't know much and spout out random things.,..lol...  luckily this site has a lot of smart computer builders and enthusiasts... so you should do alright...

Why does nobody ever actually use the url bbcode properly and put meaningfully descriptive display text in, you know, like what the bloody components are, so that I then only need to click the things I don't know the specs of, instead of be forced to click every single one just to find out the basics of make and model???
Yeah, I didn't bother clicking cuz I have nothing to say anyways, I'm more software,

But in firefox, click each link with the Middle Wheel button, and it'll open em up in Separate tabs, not perfect, but hella better than back.
I didn't realize it did that.  almost everywhere else I browse but this site automatically opens links in a new tab.

PC P&C is the absolute elite of PSUs. They'll push Antec, Coolermaster and even Corsair out of the way ten times over.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Enhance are the best.
Then Seasonic, PC P&C, Enermax (made by Fortron) and CWT (Corsair PSUs are made by Seasonic (HX models) and CWT (VX models), don't know about TX but I guess Seasonic).
Then come Antec, Coolermaster, Topower, Fortron (this list includes all PSU's made by these companies: Nexus, AOpen, Zalman, HEC, SilverStone, Q-Technology and Chieftec)

Then pretty much come the bad quality PSU's
