I recommend you read the install How-To first, on the bottom of your router, it should say "WRT54GS V.___" Gimme the version number and I'll give you the proper install file and instructions.

Some things to note:
Not sure about the GS series, but on my G V8.2, if you run torrents, it fills up the IP tables pretty much instantly causing it to "Crash", the DNS forwarder dies so you can't surf the web anymore. I got around this by going into Windows and setting custom DNS servers to OpenDNS.

Router's WRT54GS ver. 6

and as long as theres a way round it.
Plus, if i'm torrenting, I don't browse the web that much if at all, it's usually on overnight while I sleep.

v5 and v6

WRT54G(S) v5-v6 series have a vxworks-based firmware, and as such need special preparation before flashing. They are supported in v23 SP1 and above "micro" builds. See Flash_your_WRT54G_or_WRT54GS_v5_series_(v5,_v5.1,_v6)

Ok, Since the Wiki's a mess, it took me a lil bit, but here's the How To.

My only suggestion apart from that, instead of getting DD-WRT V24RC6, get 24SP1 from this link

Good Luck!
