You're thinking of Pentium 4. The Pentium Dual Core is just a naming for the lower-end C2Ds.

I wouldn't put an old, used PSU into a new PC. Not even my old, used PSU. The HDD can be upgraded on the cheap, but the DVD drive is fine.

That is a core2duo, it is just codenamed pentium for some weeeeird reason.

Technology advances faster than you can think.

If you can't remember, it was probably too long ago to pay any heed to that advice. Pentiums used to be crushed by AMD CPU's. Now the tables have turned and 'Core' rules supreme.

Yeh, core2 turned the CPU-wars upside down.

I still can't figure out why Intel still call their low-range core2 processors pentium though. E2xxx series are just conroe (same as E4xxx and E6xxx) but with L2 cache cut to 1MB, and E5xxx series are just wolfdale (same as E7xxx and E8xxx) but with a cut L2 of 2MB.

They're trying to do two things:

1: Keeping one of, not to say thee most famous brand of processors in the world alive. Call it nostalgia, I find it a bit cool of'em.
2: Playing on people just like josh here, and stupid 16-year-old store personnel; neither have any clue, they've probably heard that the Pentium sucks, but then the customer asks why it's so cheap compared to the Core 2 Duos, and the clerk mentions it's a Pentium. Pentium sounds familiar to anyone over 15 (even my fucking 75-year-old granddad who haven't used a computer more than twice in his life!), making them think "hm, something I've heard about even if I'm not so tech-savvy has got to be something special". A few moments later, it goes ka-ching, and the store has another $90.

Here's the bad:
Doesn't make sense.
Confuses the naming scheme even further.
'Core 2 Duo' is redundant, the only point being to differentiate itself from 'Core 2 Quad' but 'Core 2' and 'Core 4' would've done a better job.
What's wrong with Pentium 5? Or Pentium Dual/Pentium Quad?

Because C2Ds are 80% faster clock-per-clock. "Pentium" just didn't cut it. Hey, they're at least not as bad as nVidia.

Antec has three 650W PSU models which all provide three decent-amperage 12V rails.

That's good on Antec, but more to the point, I'm guessing the PSU itself is getting up on the years...and more prone to failure with each passing month. Besides which, if you completely gut your old computer, you'll just have a pile of useless parts and no spare rig.

Especially because Antec is made by Seasonic...which is undeniably the best (or tied for) manufacturer on the PSU market.

Antec is a really high-quality manufacturer. I doubt their caps will age noticeably in anything under a decade.

Tell that to the five year old one that poofed a black mark one foot back into my wall. Fluke? But seriously, I know they're a good power supply, but it is a good rule not to recycle that particular part unless it's relatively new.

Unless it's not used often.

You know of any drivers for Vista that'll work with a SB Live! card? I'd really like to use mine again.

That is a hard one... now that Creative gave neckshot to the best custom driver for all creative cards....

Not sure if my hacked X-FI driver for ALL creative cards works with Live!.... again thanks for Creative banning Daniel K...

Could you mail it to me or something? It's worth a try to get rid of this HORRIBLE Realtek sound card.

my upload speed sucks atm and it is 80mb. I will try to find time to upload it to some filehosting service when I have time in the army (HSDPA network there).
