French scientists Marie-Christine Cadiergues, Christel Joubert and Michael Franc from the Ecole National Veterinaire de Toulouse took the Ig Nobel biology prize for establishing that fleas living on dogs can jump further than those living on cats. Their findings, published as “A Comparison of Jump Performances of the Dog Flea”, proved that fleas on canines leap an average of 20cm further than those resident on felines.
Japan’s Toshiyuki Nakagaki was awarded the Cognitive Science prize for research titled “Intelligence: Maze-solving by an Amoeboid Organism”. In short, he proved that slime moulds can solve puzzles.

Gregg A. Miller of Oak Grove, Missouri has secured this year's Ig Nobel Prize for Medicine for his artificial replacement testicles for dogs - aka "Neuticles" - which are "available in three sizes, and three degrees of firmness"
