Ok. Lets get started, and please bear with me, Im dumb. So, Obama supports renewing and making permanent the failed assault weapons ban that Bill "J" Clinton conjured up. As seen here http://origin.barackobama.com/issues/ur … y/#poverty click crime and law enforcement, under the address gun violence tab, the very last sentence. Yes, its harder to find than a straight catholic priest (zinger). Right. So he wants to bring back a ban on guns, specifically assault rifles, because they "belong on a battlefield, not on our streets" even though the rest of the country has already figured out that said ban has zero effect on crime rates? Please see here: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_q … i_n9241101

Article said:""FBI statistics show that rifles of any description are used in only about 3% of homicides each year. Data compiled by criminologist Gary Kleck put the frequency of assault weapons use in all violent crime at 0.5%.

In California, a statewide survey of law enforcement agencies by the state Department of Justice found that a mere 3.7% of firearms used in homicides and assaults were assault weapons. A Trenton, N.J., deputy police chief said his officers "are more likely to confront an escaped tiger from the local zoo than to confront an assault rifle in the hands of a drug-crazed killer on the streets."

The U.S. Department of Justice conducted two studies of the consequences of the 1994 assault weapons ban. In 1999,-Bill Clinton's Justice Department looked exhaustively at the ban's effects. It concluded that "the public safety benefits of the 1994 ban have not yet been demonstrated." In 2001, a second Justice Department review similarly found no evidence that the ban had a statistically significant effect on violent crime. A congressionally mandated study by the Urban Institute reached comparable conclusions.""

Theres the evidence the AWB is worthless, yet he still wants it reenacted, and ya'll are ok with it? go ahead, waste more money on stupid shit the FBI, ATF, and officers around the country already told you is fruitless.

Yes. The statement is flawed from a fundamental perspective....those guns aren't on the streets. Pistols, thats a different story. The AWB is on par with banning the cellophane wrapper on a cigarette pack, because cigs cause cancer. Not the proper solution. Read the article please. And i should state, this thread is aimed at the american voting public, anyone else does not matter. You are not deciding the next president.

I love you.

but...

These are public forums and everyone can have a say. They might not get to decide in real life, but that often does not diminish the validity of their opinions. Pretend like everyone's a potential voter.

What do you want Assault weapons for. Bit of overkill for home protection, probably not much good for hunting. Why do you feel you need them?

Americans are going to need assault rifles to over throw the Illuminati some day for all our sakes.  I now fully support Americans getting tooled up.

It is pretty stupid. They would need to ban all private gun ownership or at least introduce serious regulations and controls on who gets weapons to have any meaningful impact on crime statistics in the US.

...but at the end of the day, what the fuck do you want an assault rifle for?

"Because the guy next door has one, and if he ever feels like causing shit..." It's flawed logic on the part of the people who think they need one because the next guy has one.

I also understand that these weapons aren't generally found being marketed by the bad guys on the streets, either.

As for the non-US opinions don't matter, you could have stated that in the OP, rather than coming to that conclusion after the first guy disagrees with you.

As your request though, I won't post again in this thread. I don't have a problem with Obama enacting stricter gun law measures.

I think fundamentally what he is doing is right, "statistics show that rifles of any description are used in only about 3% of homicides each year"

At what point does this percentage have to be high enough before action needs to take place? 3% is too high, imo. 1% is too high. These are human lives, each with families and loved ones. You can't dismiss these violent deaths because your numbers say it's a low percentage number without more statistical evidence that it can be dismissed.

How many homicides take place each year? 100? Then that's three people killed with assault riffles. 1000? Now there's 30 people killed. Nowhere does your source mention the number of homicides per year to analyse the data it uses.

And it's interesting to note that
Most of the 19 rifle and pistol types banned by Feinstein's 1994 amendment were already barred from import into the United States by order of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobaccoand Firearms in 1989. Even if Feinstein's Dan expires, the BATF's import restrictions would still be in place. The two domestic manufacturers of assault-style pistols are out of business. That leaves a possible resumption in production of one domestically produced rifle, the Colt AR-15, on Feinstein's list as the sole likely consequence of the 1994 ban's expiration. Feinstein's magazine-capacity restrictions would lapse with the ban's expiration. But they are widely circumvented now anyway by the vast numbers of pre-ban magazines legally available.
So your problem with this ban, is ineffective anyway, because it is a moot point.

And President Bush is(or at the very least was) in support of the ban:

A White House aide says President Bush favors extending the Feinstein ban, a position he took with no visible conviction during the 2000 campaign. Bush himself says nothing now, no doubt because he knows the gun-rights vote in swing states Arkansas, Tennessee and West Virginia made him president.
And I'd like you to please note that the old article you brought up was dated 2003. If you can find something more recent feel free to post it.

If you would like to refute anything I have stated, feel free, but if you would wish me to respond I would request an invitation to do so. As you consider my input irrelevant considering I do not vote for your next President.

Have a Bushmaster & mini-14.  For the Katrina situation, but first and foremost those two are just fun to shoot... I've gotta stock up on hi-capicity mags for all of my guns.

The assault weapons ban by Clinton was a joke.

i am responsible, i follow all the laws and it is a hobby of mine.

i dont really give a shit. it is a right that i was born with. the second amendment, no matter how outdated some of you think it is, exists for a reason. we are a free people, and there is no better way to sacrifice a free people than to disarm them.

Any politician that wants to take away our guns is planning something very evil.

And @ Barack;  get your jack booted Nazi cops to stop shooting people carrying butter knifes and I'd be grateful.

The problem with the AWB is that it targeted the cosmetics of a weapon, not the ballistics.  I can find you a weapon that is ballistically comparable to the AR-15 with a more traditional wood/hunting rifle stock.  What's the difference?  Ballistically nothing or very little, and what a weapon looks like is not what should be at question.

Balistically, this lil guy runs with the .223.  BUT, it's a pistol.  Little felt recoil.  Accurate as hell.  And there are rounds that defeat armor availiable.

Yea, this is the next gun I buy...  20 round mags standard.

the IRA gets itchy again?
i could not even imagine having guns be illegal, only to have to defend yourself and not have the ability.
the UK gun laws iirc, were put in place in the 20s to combat the IRA....that worked out so well. how many civilians were killed without the chance to defend themselves?
no, i dont want to leave in the cops hands....

You got that right.

*edit.

Georgia Arms makes ammo for this that isn't too high priced if I remember correctly.  But still, they ban "assault weapons" and here's the answer.

My Boss owns one.  It is pricy to shoot, but it drills nails with nill recoil.  You'd love it.  Gotta be a bit careful about backstops, cause this lil devil has a tendancy to shoot through them.

ya, one of my friends at the range has one. the backstop is rubber piled up in the back....of course, cause of gravity, at the top it is weakest due to the rubber rolling down lower.
well he took a head shot at a silhouette target one day....and the power went out lol, he drilled it right in the fuse box.
