I've been thinking about upgrading to a LCD and I've recently accquired $400 in gift cards to Best Buy .....

The area where I'm going to mount it can accomudate a 42" but I'm running on a budget and I can't go tossing alot of money at this tv

A few things I was worried about on getting a LCD is the picture quality on regualr channels ... I know when watching DVDs or playing my 360 the LCD is going to look

a few LCDs that I've been looking at :

Dynex® - 37" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

Insignia® - 37" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

Samsung - 37" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

Toshiba - 37" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

Insignia® - 37" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

On regular channels, an LCD looks kinda shit. It's fantastic on DVD or HD, but the regular stuff looks better on an old CRT.

Any of the bottom three i'd say.

My PS3 TV is a 32" 1080i and it looks fine on normal channels.

If you can, go for a 1080p 32"? We have an LG Scarlet and it's a fucking banging TV.

is there no way to set the tv so when watching reg channels the picture comes in better .... like setting it from widescreen to 4:3 so the picture is more compressed

SDTV signals are good enough if you watch the news or some random series. For movies you should be watching a DVD/Blu-ray/from a HTPC anyways
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Just doesn't seem right to watch TV without it being at least 1080i.  But I guess that's just me.
