How many of you play PC games on a HDTV?  I was wondering this because I want to build a media center PC and thought about making it also play games.

Make sure you hook it up via HDMI or (I think) DVI. If you use plain old VGA you can only use 640x480 for some strange reason.

You will not regret it. Make it a dual monitor setup and it's even better. I have a 40'' HDTV and a 17'' LCD on the side. It's great.

Don't HDTVs have large resolutions and thus you won't be able to play on the native resolution for new games cause of total lag?

If anything HDTVs have low resolutions.

Generally current gaming computers can go far above 1080p

...if they can handle it. Crysis at 1920x1080 would be a beast for most users.

I recently got an HDMI cable and hooked mine up. It's fucking awsm to be honest. I don't know where these people are coming from who says it looks like shit. Warhead at 1920x1080 owns. Games are great but web browsing is fail because the resolution is so high you can barely read the text

What i'm think he is talking about older models.  Some of the older HDTV's don't work with VGA that well even though its closely related to component.

I played CoD4 on my friend's HDTV once. Looked fking !!!

Be sure your video card is HD capable and you get a dvi->hdmi adapter (usually comes with the card).

It's pretty epic IMO, if you can handle the bigger monitor. I have mine hooked up via VGA with a DVI-to-VGA adapter on the vid card. Runs at 1920x1080, looks good.

I mostly play adventure games, Broken Sword, Sherlock Holmes, Full Throttle, that way the whole family isn't bunched up around one computer monitor. Also, I have it setup on clone, image on the monitor and HDTV, with very little quality loss.

BF2 might be hard to spot targets at that size, but it'd be great for showing off road rage and ragdolls in AIX .

I used to play BF2 on my hdtv. Had to stretch it due to the WS, so it wasn't that great. But, WOW in 1080i (best my tv has; dvi) was sick. I played a few others which I can't remember now, but like others have said, the internet sucked. Text is too small.

uhh yes

With my HDTV at least, if I plug my PC into the "Computer port" (aka the VGA port) it says it's limited to some shitty non-HD resolution.

If I plug it in via HDMI, I can go up to 1920x1080 (although 1280x720 is optimal for this TV).

Thats quite a bit different.

Your HDTV sucks, or you video card is doing it wrong.

I know that when I can't get BF2 to work on a monitor, Take the profiles folder out of you My docs->bf2 folder and cut and paste to desktop and try to start game. If that doesn't work I dunno.

An actual "HD" projector/TV will go up to 1920x1080 as people have said.

I use my PC via VGA with my projector at 1920x1080 occasionally and it is pretty fun

Omni is right about text though, large res + large distance = unreadable most of the time. No problem on an LCD 30cm away at 1920x1200 but when it is 3-5m you start straining.

Thats what Im planning on doing. Put the TV to the left and the monitor to the right on a desk. Play games on it there, and then switch over to the TV when I wanna watch movies or tv.
