BF3 will come someday (or some kind of follow on to BF2 anyway), but not for a couple of years atleast, this interview quote hasn't changed anything.

I still hold out hope for a patch, although I still really enjoy BF2 as it is

BF3.

There will be a BF3, even if it's not called BF3, there will, almost certainly, be one - the series is too popular for there not to be more.

As for the patch - who knows - hopefully it will get released, but I think it more likely that the patch will get scrapped than there being no more Battlefields.

Doesn't mean it'll be released - the games industry is full of software that's been announced and then binned with no explanation why.
